The trailer for the new “Suspiria” remake dropped today and fans of the original horror classic are definitely talking about it. The trailer was released only eight short hours ago and already has over 235k views on YouTube. This chilling horror remake certainly looks like a real treat.

Something sinister is at the heart of a "world-renowned dance company," the film’s synopsis explains.

This darkness threatens to “engulf the troupe's artistic director, an ambitious young dancer, and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up.”

A little info on the original

The original film was directed by Italian director Dario Argento. His 1977 masterpiece was one of the last films to be made in Technicolor. This is noteworthy because most horror films use muted colors and shroud their scenes in darkness while “Suspiria” overpowered the screen with intense, oversaturated colors to heighten emotion. The end result was a dream-like horror show that was like no other.

The original film centers on an American newcomer, Suzy Bannion (played by Jessica Harper) who travels to Germany to perfect her ballet skills. Amid a series of grisly murders and odd occurrences, Suzy comes to realize that the school is a front for something sinister. Strange sounds in the night, Suzy’s “special diet”, the school ’s maggot infestation, and the pianist being killed by his own dog are all clues that indicate that the ballet school is under the dominion of witchcraft!

Who’s the new crew?

The new film is set to release in the fall of this year as director Luca Guadagnino puts his mark on this iconic nightmare. The 46-year-old Sicilian-born director is best known for projects such as “Call Me by Your Name,” “I Am Love,” and “A Bigger Splash.” The remake of the 1977 original marks the return of actress Jessica Harper who is known for playing the role of Suzy in the 1977 original.

Dakota Johnson (who starred in the film adaptation of the best-selling erotic novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey") will also be staring in this film. Other notable cast members include the iconic British actress Tilda Swinton (known for her appearances in films such as “Constantine,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” and “Doctor Strange,” just to name a few). The new movie also features Mia Goth from “A Cure for Wellness” and Chloe Grace Moretz from “Let Me In.”

Amazon Studios continues toward its goal of turning “original stories into great entertainment” as the production company works with K Period Media to recreate Argento’s horror classic. This dark and twisted nightmare is set to join the ranks of Amazon’s other self-distributed titles such as Woody Allen’s “Wonder Wheel” and Mike Leigh’s “Peterloo.” The latter production company is best known for the acclaimed 2016 feature “Manchester by the Sea” which was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

The remake appears to be in good hands so fans of the original have nothing to worry about. "Suspiria" arrives in theaters on November 2, 2018.
