Ryan O'Neal is fed up with his troubled son Redmond O'Neal revealing that there is nothing more he can do to help him any longer according to Radar Online. From the beginning, it has been revealed that the two have always had a very turbulent father and son relationship and now things appear to be even worse.

Dysfunction, drugs and abuse have plagued the O'Neal family for decades

As previously reported, Redmond O'Neal, the son of Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett was arrested in April after allegedly robbing a 7-Eleven convenience store at knifepoint.

Redmond has reportedly had a very hard time in life ever since his famous mom Farrah died in 2009 from anal cancer at only 62.

Ryan O'Neal believes nothing more can be done to help his son

in 2009, Redmond, who was on probation for for DUI charges when he was arrested for possession.Sadly, his mom, Fawcett was in the hospital at the time. Sadly, Farrah passed away on June 25, 2009. Redmond was granted special permission to leave the California detention center where he was being held to attend his mother's funeral.

Sadly, it now appears as if Ryan feels that Redmond, 33, is a lost cause and has given up hope that anything he can do will save his son at this point. Redmond has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and if convicted he could face up to ten years in prison.

Radar reports that a source close to O'Neal claims that Ryan is just over Redmond's issues and hasn't even bothered to reach out to his son at all.

Ryan's message was loud and clear especially after he failed to show up at Redmond's hearing last Friday at the Los Angeles courthouse. Redmond's lawyer, however, attempted to play the sympathy card with the judge revealing that Ryan is in "very poor health"telling the judge that Redmond is afraid his father may die while he is in custody.

Redmond O'Neal is obviously very ashamed of his recent legal issues and drug addiction and had even turned away his sister Tatum O'Neal after she attempted to visit her half-brother in jail. Tatum O'Neal does not want to turn her back on her brother, in fact, Tatum has made it very clear that she would like nothing more than to see her family put away their past issues with each other and become a real family.

Tatum even went as far as to attempt to reach out to her aging father Ryan O'Neal by publicly apologizing to her estranged dad during a March interview with Megyn Kelly. The O'Neal family have a long history of drug addiction and dysfunction.

With Ryan O'Neal's failing health it is necessary according to Tatum that they put aside their differences and spend as much family time together while they still have the chance.

It is a tough family situation for sure, but we hope that for the sake of everyone involved they can work out their differences once and for all.
