Outspoken rapper Kanye West made headlines this week when he decided to come out and appear to support and praise Donald Trump. After backlash, the president tweeted out in response.

Trump on Kanye West

It's no secret that Donald Trump is not on the best of terms with the majority of celebrities, with many out in Hollywood routinely using their popularity to rip into the former host of "The Apprentice." While that continues to be the case, rapper Kanye West found himself dealing with criticism after tweeting out words of support for Trump.

"You don't have to agree with trump but the mob can't make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother," West tweeted out. "For people In my life the idea of Trump is pretty much a 50 50 split but I don't tell a Hillary supporter not to support Hillary. I love Hillary too," he added in a follow-up tweet. In one of his most recent posts, West then posted a photo of his "Make America Great Again" hat that was personally signed by Trump.

After Kanye West sent out a series of tweets on the issue, including a clarification on the order of his wife Kim Kardashian that he doesn't fully support the president, Donald Trump responded with thanks as Kanye West received a shout out from the president.

"Thank you Kanye, very cool!" Trump tweeted. As expected, those who oppose the commander in chief took time to hit back at Trump and West on social media as the backlash increased.

Twitter push back

Not long after Donald Trump responded to Kanye West, both men came under fire on social media. "Kanye West and Donald Trump both have the mind of a man child...It's just extremely disappointing how he misuses his platform, tarnishes his influence and manipulates his race," one tweet read.

"Two deranged twits, right there. Perfect," a Twitter user wrote. "Just cause you thank Kanye for his crazy doesn’t make you any less racist. Does he have a( C )for colored next to his name in your phone?" an additional tweet noted.

"Isn’t it republicans who always say celebrities should keep their mouths shut? Oh yeah that’s only if they oppose them. Got it," another tweet stated.

"from one effing MORON Donald Trump to an effing JACKASS!! Kanye West nuff said!" a social media user wrote. "We are living in the twilight zone," a follow-up tweet added. The negative reaction continued to pour in as many Americans expressed their disdain for both Donald Trump and Kanye West.
