It seems as if "Grey’s Anatomy" star Jesse Williams has drama both on and off screen these days. Last April, Williams filed for divorce from his wife of five years, Aryn Drake-Lee. The former couple shares two children together, 4-year-old Sadie and 2-year-old Maceo.

A very public break-up

The two have been in the midst of a public battle since their separation between the divorce and reported fights over money and the children. E News reported, back in August, that Drake-Lee filed multiple documents for requests from the court, “namely that she wanted sole custody and had also rejected her former partner's June request for joint custody.” Williams was not going to give up his kids just like that.

But Drake-Lee was ready for a fight as her requests to the court included some very specific conditions such as “agreed-upon nap times, agreeing to "age appropriate viewing content," and that "neither parent will introduce a new intimate partner until the relationship has endured at least six months."

Moving on quickly

The last part of her request, it seems, came from the fact that quickly after the couple’s separation Williams was said to have been with actress Minka Kelly. It was reported that the two actors began dating in May, just one month after Williams filed for divorce.

The two stars were very private about the status of their relationship even though they were spotted out on many dates together. The two actors have since split but the rule regarding their children still applies.

A decision reached

Despite the previous request from Drake-Lee, according to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Williams was awarded joint physical custody of his children by the court. The actor will have his children every other weekend, two days a week and on Father’s Day. Also according to Entertainment Tonight, they will alternate sharing the kids for major holidays.

It is also reported that the schedule will alternate depending when Williams is filming "Grey's Anatomy" and when he is not.

The actor first joined the Shonda Rhimes-produced show back in season 6. He will also be stepping behind the camera and directing an upcoming episode of the show.

Much like his real life, William's character Dr. Jackson Avery went through a divorce and custody battle with his colleague Dr. April Kepner during season 12 of the hit drama.

Since then Avery has moved on in the romance department while still maintaining a civil relationship with his ex for his daughter. Again, mirroring the current circumstances in his real life.

Watch Williams on "Grey's Anatomy" every Thursday at 9 PM on ABC.
