"Days of our Lives" fans have been on the edge of their seats, waiting for some big news to drop about the NBC soap opera. The show, which has been on the air for an astounding 53 seasons, will continue to run on the network for at least one more year. NBC has officially announced that "DOOL" has been renewed for Season 54, and fans of the show couldn't be happier about the major news.

'Days' is returning for another season

According to the latest "Days Of Our Lives" news, fans will get to stay in Salem at least one more year. That's right, "DOOL" isn't going anywhere. In fact, many viewers believe that the soap has been getting better and better. Current head writer, Ron Carlivati, has earned praise from many longtime viewers, who love to see some of the surprising storylines return. Plots such as Abigail Deveraux-DiMera (Marci Miller) having a split personality disorder, or Stefano DiMera's long lost son, Stefan (Tyler Christopher), coming to town have been received well by fans.

Other current "Days of our Lives" storylines such as the murder of Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) and Lani Price's paternity secret also have fans tuning in each weekday afternoon in hopes of not missing a moment of the drama. Of course, the drama isn't the only reason why fans have continued watching "DOOL" over the past 53 years.

Many viewers love the show's couples and can't get enough of the daytime romances, such as the love between Steve and Kayla Johnson (Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans).
