"The Walking Dead" Season 8 is scheduled to return to the Sunday night television lineup on February 25th on AMC for the second half of the 2017-2018 season. A new sneak peek trailer has been released and it looks as if the second half of the season is going to be more exciting than the first. The season kicks off right where we left off, with Carl Grimes revealing to his family and friends that he was bitten by a walker.

Saying goodbye to Carl Grimes

The final moments Carl spends with his dad Rick are going to be heartbreaking. Since the mid-season finale, there has been a lot of fan speculation floating around on social media about how Carl could possibly survive his tragic fate.

Sadly, Carl will die within the first half hour of the show and it is going to bring tears to the eyes of even the toughest viewers.

The big question remains: How will Rick Grimes react now that he has lost the last remaining family member? Sure, he still has Judith, and there is no doubt that Rick loves the child, but she is not his biological child, she is Shane's. Now that Carl is gone will we see Rick Grimes revert back to his reckless and self-centered behavior? Carl leaves this world, Rick, and the group with one last wish.

The future of 'The Walking Dead'

He wants his dad and the group he has come to call his family to continue their search for peace in this "horrific new world." He asks him to put away his gun, to stop all the fighting.

Rick is heartbroken and he wants his revenge against Negan. Rick will not stop until a price is paid for all he has done, especially for taking the lives of his close friends -- Glen Rhee and Abe Ford.

Rick tells Carl he cannot be the man he was, and that everything is different. In Carl's last breaths he shares with his father his mother Lori's last words to him, revealing that she told him he was "going to beat this world.

You will." The group has suffered so much pain and loss, but throughout the rest of Season 8, they will band together, becoming even stronger to finish this brutal war with Negan and the Saviors.

Carl's death will affect the entire group and we will see Carol and Daryl become more like they once were in the beginning, vowing to do whatever it takes to take Negan down once and for all.

The "All Out War" will come to an end this season, but fans are really starting to worry about Rick's fate. The show's writers have already told us many times over that "no one is safe, even Rick." Well, Andrew Lincoln's contract is up this season, does that mean we could see the end of Rick Grimes?

Will Rick Grimes die in Season 8B, and if we lose Rick, what will that mean for the future of the show?

"The Walking Dead" returns February 25 on AMC with an extended episode.
