Littlefinger's storyline in "Game of Thrones" Season 7 was, without a doubt, the worst part of an otherwise excellent season. And his death, despite being satisfying to most fans, was ridiculous, to say the least. Petyr Baelish, master manipulator, the smartest man in Westeros, outmaneuvered and utterly humiliated by a bunch of kids. And no matter how special the Stark children are, Littlefinger, of all people, should have known better.
This is the man who made kings rise and fall, the man who plotted his way from nothing, to one of the most powerful lords of Westeros. He played the Game of Thrones like a living legend, manipulating events from behind the scenes. And all of that he did with an ever-present smirk on his face. So to have a man like this on his knees, begging for his life seems a bit suspicious, doesn't it? It's almost as if he wasn't the same man. Well, according to one theory, he wasn't. Let's explain.
Could Littlefinger still be alive?
This theory was first brought up by Reddit user Neoanagro, and then further explored by MrSilenceT.
Now, let's see what it is all about.
"Every possible series of events are happening all at once," Littlefinger said to Sansa. "Live that way, and nothing can surprise you," and then quite ironically Bran arrived in Winterfell. So what was Baelish to do? Naturally, he went to see the boy and tried to get under his skin. "Chaos is a ladder" line from the new Three-eyed Raven struck Littlefinger like a thunderbolt. It was at that particular moment that Littlefinger realized he was in trouble. And Arya's arrival only made things worse, so Baelish knew that he must act fast.
"Every time I want to understand a person's motives, I play a little game and assume the worst" is yet another Littlefinger's saying that perfectly describes how careful he really is.
These are the words of the man with a plan, the real plan, not the one that includes turning Sansa and Arya against each other.
Littlefinger's greatest deception
Before proceeding with the article, check out the first thirty seconds of the video down below.
You can see Littlefinger talking to some unknown blonde girl, and then giving her what was definitely a coin. She even said to him something resembling "Your time is up." Now, according to this theory, the coin was from Braavos, and the girl was one of the Faceless Men.
She played the role of a maiden in Winterfell, but in this scene, she received a special coin meaning that she was obligated to play the role of Littlefinger. And so she played it, though not very well in "Game of Thrones" Season 7 finale.
Because Petyr Baelish never cried, not even when he was facing death. When he was arrested for Lysa's murder, he laughed, and when Sansa wanted him dead, he simply said: "Then I will die." That's why Littlefinger begging for his life on his knees, crying like a little girl, seemed completely out of character.
You can check out Neo's video down below for more details about this mind-blowing theory.
My opinion
Now, however interesting and thought-provoking this theory seems to be, I don't believe that Littlefinger will somehow magically re-appear in "Game of Thrones" Season 8. He may have a major role, in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" books, and he may even turn out to be an unexpected hero, for all I know. But as far as the TV show is concerned, Littlefinger is dead, and he won't be coming back.
