Harvey Weinstein, who had been one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood for decades, has had quite a year. In October 2017, Weinstein was accussed of sexual harrassment and abuse by over 100 women, many of which were famous Hollywod actresses who kept their secret for years due to fear of speaking out. Several days after the allegations against the producer became public, his wife announced she had filed for divorce.
Sexual harrassment allegations followed by divorce
Georgina Chapman, an English fashion designer and actress, married Weinstein in 2007.
The couple then had two children – a daughter in 2010, and a son in 2013. Chapman is a successful fashion designer, and, together with Karen Craig, she launched the fashion label Marchesa, which was worn by many Hollywood stars on the red carpet.
Weinstein, 65, and Chapman, 41, led an idyllic life until the fall of 2017, when over 100 women finally decided to come forward and tell their stories of sexual abuse and harrassment they had suffered at the hands of Weinstein. The allegations proved to be too much for Chapman to handle – she filed for divorce in October.
Eight figure settlement
The Post reported that Chapman and Weinstein had finally reached a settlement. She will receive a sum between $15 million and $20 million, as per the prenuptial agreement, which stated that the producer must pay Chapman $300,000 in spousal support for every year of the marriage.
The fashion designer herself is reported to have a net worth of $20 million through her own business ventures.
In addition to the settlement, the fashion designer will also receive a part of their mutual assets. The negotiations did not go smoothly, however. Sources claim that the talks nearly collapsed, and that the estranged couple were close to taking their divorce case to court.
Chapman will also receive primary custody of their two children.
Harvey Weinstein is reported to be worth an estimed $240 million. However, since the allegations broke, he has been spending millions of dollars on lawyers, publicists and private investigators. One thing is clear – his career as a movie producer is surely over.
Since a report on his behavior was published in The New York Times, numerous Hollywood actors and casting agencies have denounced him. The allegations against Harvey also sparked the #MeToo movement, which encourages women to speak out against sexual abuse and harrassment.
