In a stunning announcement on Wednesday morning, NBC announced that they had fired long-time network host Matt Lauer after allegations of sexual misconduct. In response, Donald Trump decided to give his thoughts on Twitter, while later turning his attention to MSNBC host Joe Scarborough.
Trump on Lauer
Over the last two months, the biggest stories making the headlines have often revolved around the sexual harassment and assault allegations against several high-profiled individuals.
It all started when the New York Times broke their bombshell report detailing years of sexual misconduct at the hands of film producer Harvey Weinstein. Following Weinstein's firing from his own company, it opened up the floodgates for more women to come out with stories of their own. From actors, to directors, to producers, to politicians in Washington, no one was safe as women finally started to feel comfortable in revealing allegations of inappropriate behavior. The latest casualty in regards to being accused of sexual misconduct is co-host of "TODAY" on NBC, Matt Lauer. NBC made the announcement on Wednesday morning, stunned viewers in the process.
Though this was the first complaint against Lauer in over 20 years, the network reviewed the situation and decided that there was enough damaging information to terminate his contract. Responding to the news was Donald Trump, who did so during a November 29 tweet.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday morning, Donald Trump gave his thoughts on the recent firing of Matt Lauer after sexual misconduct claims. "Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for 'inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace,'" Trump tweeted.
Not stopping there, Donald Trump then called on top executives to be fired for pushing "fake news," while singling out the network's chairman, Andy Lack. "When will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News," Trump wrote, before adding, "Check out Andy Lack’s past!" Trump's remarks come at a time where he has decided to support Republican Senate candidate in Alabama, Roy Moore, despite numerous allegations that he sexually harassed and assaulted underage girls over the last 40 years.
Trump on "Morning Joe"
In a follow-up tweet, Donald Trump called for the investigation of "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough over the death of one of his interns during his time serving as a congressman of Florida. In 2001, Lori Klausutis was found dead in Scarborough's office in what was later ruled an accident, though it hasn't stopped conspiracy blogs from questioning what actually happened to her during that time.
"So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin?" Donald Trump wondered. "And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the 'unsolved mystery' that took place in Florida years ago?" he continued, before adding, "Investigate!"
Moving forward
While Donald Trump compares sexual misconduct scandals to "fake news" and brings up conspiracies about other cable news hosts, the president isn't a stranger to similar allegations. A month prior to winning the election last year, a dozen women went public accusing the former host of "The Apprentice" of various allegations of sexual assault and harassment.
