Diavolo: 'Architecture in Motion'

Featured on America’s Got Talent, The Diavolo dance company is heralded as both a dance and acrobatic group.

The production got its name because it was the best way to describe artistic director Jacque Heim’s work. Architecture in Motion explores the human body in combination with architectural environments. The concept is based on a single premise, architecture around society has an emotional and psychological effect on humanity.

The work aims to convey how humans are an extension of their architectural environment which is based on movement and interaction. Heim prefers to think of himself in literal terms as an architect of motion rather than a choreographer. The New York Times stated that the production has a “...

a straightforward playfulness with props and physicality that elicits cheers from the audience.” The showtimes are 1, 3, and 7 p.m at the Valley Performing Arts Center on November 11th.

AteNine: 'Calling Glenn'

AteNine, a dance company based in L.A. will be showcasing the dance production, "Calling Glenn." AteNine is considered one of the most important dance companies on the West Coast. The UCLA presentation will feature Glenn Kotche who is the percussionist of Wilco, a rock band. The production "Calling Glenn" is a collaboration between Danielle Agami and Glenn Kotche.

The leader of AteNine is a former Batsheva Dance Company member, Danielle Agami. Her choreographed dances are noted for their distinct humor and powerful presence.

The event takes place on Saturday, November 11th and tickets can be obtained from $29 to $49. The event will take place at UCLA’s Royce Hall at 8:00 pm.

'The Hip Hop Nutcracker'

On Friday, November 17th, "The Hip Hop Nutcracker" will be playing at 8 PM at the Los Angeles Theatre. The production is a blend of contemporary Hip Hop dance vocabulary combined with Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. The show debuted in 2014 in Washington and has since received rave reviews.

Witness Maria-Clara get kidnapped by a group of mouse-ear wearing gang members as a lowly nut cart owner saves the day. Expect pink hair, telekinesis, time travel, and a street version of the Russian dance. The production features an eclectic Hip Hop spin on Pas de Deux and the Dance of The Flowers. Ticket prices start at $68.
