The 2017 "MTV European Music Awards" took place in Wembley, London at the SSE arena. The awards ceremony honored artists across genres that include pop, R&B, electronic, hip-hop, and alternative music. This particular award ceremony hasn’t been hosted in Europe since 1996. The 24th "European Music Awards" were hosted by European native Rita Ora, clad in a bathrobe complete with a towel headdress.
Kendrick Lamar took home an award for the song “Humble.” Lamar won Best Video but was not able to attend and collect the award. He did chime in on his win via webcam.
Shawn Mendes went home with a total of three EMA awards. Mendes won Best Song for “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back.” He also won awards for Biggest Fans and Best Artist.
Rapper Eminem won Best Hip Hop artist and stated he was surprised because he hasn’t released an album in a few years, “I’m not really sure how I got this.” Eminem hinted at releasing an album in the next few years during his acceptance.
There were several visually stimulating performances from a number of artists; Kesha, David Guetta, Camila Cabello, Eminem, Demi Lovato, Skylar Grey, French Montana, and Travis Scott. Scott performed live while standing on a gigantic animatronic bird with moving wings.
French Montana’s performance was briefly interrupted by a man who crashed the stage while holding a banner.
The text on the sign promoted an app. The person who crashed the stage is part of the Youtube duo, Trollstation, which plays pranks on unsuspecting British people. The incident reminded some people of Mike Portnoy’s “Soy Bomb” prank at the Grammy awards in 1996.
The Killers gave a passionate and soulful performance. Liam Payne sang “Strip That Down” while maneuvering around ten dancers on stage.
Stormzy rapped, “Big for Your Boots" while standing in the sunroof of a moving police car.
