Selena Quintanilla Perez has just become star number 2,622 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. For those who aren’t familiar with her, some of her biggest hits include the songs Dreaming of You and Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. She was born in Lake Jackson, Texas in 1971 and she passed in 1995.

Selena draws record crowd again

Again, the late star broke records with the number of attendees that showed up on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Roughly 4,500 people turned up to Selena’s ceremony to acknowledge her with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The event was star-studded and included many members of the Quintanilla family.

Selena’s sister Suzette was given the honor of placing Selena's name and a plaque into the concrete mold days prior to the event. Her sister was extremely pleased with placing the star, stating that she was made aware this is a privilege not everyone gets to enjoy.

Speakers at the Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony

The event to honor Selena took place during the evening. This is notable because there has not been a star placed on the Hall of Fame during the evening since Ringo Starr in 2010. Variety live-streamed the event which had several speakers including Suzette Quintanilla, Eric Garcetti, and Eva Longoria.

The Mexican-American actress stated that Selena “validated her existence”. Longoria went on to say that she saw no faces like hers growing up with Selena being the only exception.

Chris Perez, who married the late singer was not one of the speakers. Later that evening, fans cheered wildly for Perez when he sat next to the dozen white roses he placed on her star.

Emotions surround Selena decades later

Street interviews took place to gauge the public's sentiment about the ceremony. Many people interviewed felt that this honor was long overdue.

It has been more than 20 years since Selena was tragically murdered.

Selena was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar, founder of the Selena Fan Club, during a business dispute. The singer's music and life has left an indelible impression on music, Mexican-American culture, and the world at large. Selena sold 65 million albums across the world and received numerous honors including being named the top artists of the 90’s by Billboard magazine.

Many of Selena's fans are up in arms because her star on the hollywood walk of fame reads Selena Quintanilla instead of Selena Quintanilla Perez. Selena was married to Chris Perez when she passed. Perez's roses were removed for additional pictures to be taken which has ruffled the feathers of some fans.
