The crime drama "Mindhunter" on Netflix will tackle the Atlanta Child Murders in season 2. Director and executive producer David Fincher revealed a few bits about what's coming up next in an exclusive interview.

Speaking with Billboard, David Fincher confirmed that the cases the FBI special agents on the show would tackle the deaths of the 28 children in Atlanta from 1979 to 1981.

The director was discussing the show's soundtrack with the publication when he revealed this piece of information.

"Next year we’re looking at the Atlanta child murders, so we’ll have a lot more African-American music which will be nice," David Fincher confirmed. "The music will evolve. It’s intended to support what’s happening with the show and for the show to evolve radically between seasons.”

The series' basis

In real life, FBI Agent John E. Douglas was instrumental in catching the serial killer responsible for the Atlanta child murders. He became the said basis for Jonathan Groff's character, FBI Agent Holden Ford, in "Mindhunter."

"Mindhunter" season 1, which premiered on Netflix Friday, Oct.

13, tackled the beginnings of how the FBI studied serial killer behavior. It marked how the agency eventually learned profiling to solve murder cases.

The show based its stories from "Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit," the book that Douglas wrote with Mark Olshaker. FBI tasked him to interview serial killers in the '70s in the same way that Groff's character did in the series.

Filming season 2

Netflix renewed "Mindhunter" for season 2 six months before season 1 started its run. Production for the second season began in May and will go on until December, as per Spoiler TV. The show could be back for brand new episodes on the streaming platform in late 2018.

Meanwhile, “Mindhunter” season 1 continues to get critical praise.

While the show is mostly about Ford’s work with his partner FBI agent Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) and psychologist Dr. Wendy Carr (Anna Torv), there’s also a story involving the infamous BTK Killer, Dennis Rader, though his name was never mentioned in the show.

The FBI tracked down the BTK Killer from 1974 to 1991. He became the basis for Fincher’s 2007 film “Zodiac, ” but “Mindhunter” has yet to zero in on his capture.

Mindhunter” season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix with ten episodes. Joe Penhall wrote the scripts while Charlize Theron is among the producers.
