ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" is well underway for its fourteenth season and the cast couldn't be more excited with the new milestone. But for Jessica Capshaw in particular, things are special because of the nature of her character. In an interview with Marie Claire, Capshaw brings up the topic of playing the role of a gay doctor and her character's relationship with Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) that started it all.
Staying neutral on whether she enjoys playing the part of a gay surgeon or not, Capshaw admits she's inspired by the incredible messages she receives for portraying such character in "Grey's Anatomy." According to the actress, while she wasn't aware that her role will lead to this level of diversity, she admits feeling the importance of her role in order to truly deliver what is happening in real life. "I could never have anticipated how important it would be to me too, at a time in the world and in the country where telling this story actually means something to people," she added.
Jessica Capshaw says goodbye to Sara Ramirez
Meanwhile, she walked down memory lane when Sara Ramirez was mentioned. Let's not forget, Arizona Robbins' (Jessica Capshaw) great love was Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and the amount of time they worked on "Grey's Anatomy" cannot be compared to any of Arizona's latest love interests. But for Capshaw, the relationship between Arizona and Callie took a step forward in making sure that they are able to represent a couple or relationship based on the true lives of those living in the LGBT community.
"And then, of course, Sara wanted to move on, and so we said goodbye," Capshaw added, which marked a stage in their relationship where the goodbye means forever.
Capshaw, meanwhile, insists that despite the fate of Arizona and Callie's relationship, their tandem will be forever remembered in "Shondaland."
Arizona Robbins' relationship status
As for the status of Arizona Robbins in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 14, Capshaw reveals that she's happy seeing Arizona being single but it looks like that status will not be hers for a long time. During the premiere of medical drama, she hooked up with Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) immediately after realizing that Eliza Minnick (Marika Dominczyk) "ghosted" on her.
So what makes Jessica Capshaw enjoy her role in Greys? "The younger generation of viewers, who have a full understanding of who they are, and are choosing to embrace who they are without hesitation. I love that part," Capshaw added.
