Season 2 of The CW’s “Riverdale” is going to get darker. Show creator, Robert Aguirre-Sacasa, teased fans to expect a scary suspense story this season. According to Robert's’ interview with Entertainment Weekly, Season 2’s theme is going to be “when you’re living with the fear of something terrible might happen”.
It’s not just the angel of death that has come to Riverdale. In addition to the recasting for the character Reggie, who will now be played by Charles Melton (which was previously played by Ross Butler), the show will be introducing New characters this season.
Some of these characters will be bringing more trouble for Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse).
Hiram Lodge
Last season, Veronica’s father spent his time in jail. Despite that, his presence was still felt in Riverdale and he was still actively doing business behind bars. At the end of Season 1, Hermione (Marisol Nichols) received news that Hiram will soon be out of prison, and it looks like he’ll be causing more problems when he arrives in town.
Hiram Lodge will be played by Mark Consuelos. In the actor’s interview with Entertainment Weekly, he explained that Hiram loves his family very much and that he is fiercely protective of them – and he also loves power too.
Veronica and Archie are in a relationship when Season 1 ended, RAS has already said that Hiram won’t like it. Hiram despises Archie, and it will be a source of conflict and great angst between Veronica and Archie.
Toni Topaz
RAS has already confirmed that Jughead will be moving to Southside High, which puts a tension in his relationship with Betty.
In addition to that is Toni Topaz, to be played by Vanessa Morgan. Fans are already worried that Toni will be a cause of conflict for Bughead.
Morgan describes her character as a female version of Jughead. Show producer, Sarah Schechter, describes the character as smart and opinionated. Toni Topaz is a member of Southside Serpents who will befriend Jughead and act as his guide into the Serpent life.
Penny Peabody
Known as the “Snake Charmer”, Penny Peabody, to be played by Brit Morgan, is an attorney that the Serpents keep on retainer. Peabody prefers that her clients pay her with favors instead of money. When Jughead hears about her, he asks for her help to help F.P. Jones (Martin Cummins) in prison.
Nick St. Clair
Another addition in Veronica’s life is Nick St. Clair, to be played by Graham Philips. He is Veronica’s ex-boyfriend from New York who has come to Riverdale to get her back. His arrival will be threatening Veronica’s relationship with Archie and introduce Veronica’s darker side.
RAS describes the character as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Nick is a hard-partying Lothario with dark desires and unchecked sense of privilege.
According to Refinery 29, Nick St. Clair will only be appearing for 2 episodes.
Chic Cooper
In the Season 1 finale, Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick) confessed to Betty that she and Polly has a long-lost brother. She told her that she got pregnant when she was in high school and gave the baby up for adoption.
The latest addition to the new characters coming to Riverdale is Chic Cooper, to be played by Hart Denton. According to TV Line, Chic will be a recurring character in Season 2 and will be introduced mid-season.
Sweet Pea
A very recent addition to Season 2 is Jordan Connor who will be playing Sweet Pea. The actor announced the news by posting 2 photos on his Instagram account. Not much is known about the character yet, but he is a member of the Southside Serpents.
