Riverdale” premiered earlier this year in January and has quickly gained popularity among TV viewers. The series is based on the characters of the popular “Archie” comics and adapted for television by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The small town of Riverdale was believed to be the safest place on Earth until the murder of Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines), the suicide of Cliff Blossom (Barclay Hope), and the shooting of Fred Andrews.

After the success of Season 1, RAS told Entertainment Weekly that he was nervous about Season 2 being an imitation of the premiere season and doing another murder mystery after Jason’s murder was solved.

He teased the fans to expect a scary suspense story this coming season.

According to RAS’ interview, Season 2’s theme is going to be “when you’re living with the fear of something terrible might happen.” After the events and drama from Season 1, fans couldn’t wait for the next season. Here are details for the upcoming new season of “Riverdale”.

Bughead problems

Fans of “Riverdale” have been shipping “Bughead” since Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) started spending time together. This coming season, the fan favorite couple will be experiencing problems. In the Season 1 finale, Jughead accepted a jacket from the Southside Serpents and that he is one of them now.

RAS has confirmed that Jughead will be moving schools to Southside High which will put a tension in his relationship with Betty.

He compared Bughead’s story to “Romeo and Juliet” – with Betty in one side of the town and Jughead in the other.

New additions

Reggie Mantle will now be played by Charles Melton. The role was originally played by Ross Butler, but the actor had to leave the show to focus on Season 2 of “13 Reasons Why.” Fans will also finally get to meet Veronica’s father, Hiram Lodge, played by Mark Consuelos.

Hiram Lodge will soon be released from prison and will be reunited with his family in Riverdale.

Vanessa Morgan and Brit Morgan will be joining the cast of “Riverdale” for Season 2 as Toni Topaz and Penny Peabody, respectively. According to RAS, Toni Topaz will be like Jughead’s guide in the Serpent world, and Penny Peabody is an attorney in league with the Serpents.

Jughead will be seeking Penny’s assistance to help FP Jones.

Another man coming to town is Nick St. Clair, played by Graham Philips, Veronica’s ex-boyfriend from New York who has come to Riverdale to win her back. There is also the talks of the birth of Polly Cooper and Jason Blossom’s twins. RAS has previously teased that the twin’s birth will be on-screen. There are also rumors about the appearance of Polly and Betty’s long lost brother, and Jughead’s sister, Jellybean.

Everyone is going dark

With so much mystery and threats coming to Riverdale, it is no wonder that the people who live there are going dark.

It has been reported that Season 2 will be much darker than the previous season and so are the characters.

Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) will be taking on elements of revenge, darkness, and violence. Archie’s darkness, along with the mystery of who shot Fred, will be the spine and focus of the second season. Dark Betty will be making a return this season. Betty will be wrapped up in the middle of something she didn’t ask to be a part of, which will be pushing her to her limits.

Veronica Lodge (Camilla Mendes) has mentioned how she was a spoiled mean girl before she moved to Riverdale. The arrival of Nick St. Claire to town will bring out the dark side of Veronica that is much darker than Dark Betty, according to the Riverdale panel at Comic-Con.

The show has so much in store for this coming season, including Fred’s fate. Season 2 of “Riverdale” premieres on October 11 on The CW.
