The continuation of "Grey's Anatomy season 14" this week featured Martin Henderson's departure from the show. Episode 5 of the new season shed some light on Megan Hunt (Abigail Spencer) and Nathan Riggs' (Martin Henderson) love story in the military. But what's more surprising is the storyline that leads to Henderson's departure from the show.
In the latest episode of "Grey's Anatomy Season 14," Nathan Riggs is featured enjoying the sunset on a beach in Los Angeles with Megan and her adopted son Farouk (Bardia Seiri). A timeless storyline that ends Henderson's stay in Shondaland.
According to Variety, the actor has expected such storyline because of his ending contract.
Martin Henderson on leaving "Grey's Anatomy"
"I only had a short-term contract with the show. This is my final year so I was expecting Nathan’s storyline to be wrapped up. Bringing in Megan and tying up loose ends, provided a reason. That was always intended when they brought Megan back with a twist," Henderson said.
Meanwhile, the actor is not closing doors on making a "Grey' Anatomy" cameo. In fact, he added that he's been part of three Shondaland shows and is particularly agreeable on a fine storyline for his comeback. he further said that he feels quite connected to Shonda and is thankful for all the opportunities given to him.
Shonda Rhimes statement
Talking to Variety, "I loved that we were able to give Riggs a happy ending worthy of his character and talent," Shonda Rhimes said. "I can’t wait to find a new project to work with him on in the future," she added.
Martin Henderson revealed on the Deadline that while he may want to explore other things, Shonda Rhimes has hinted on wanting to "put a gun in his hand." Meaning, Shondaland might find some that fit Henderson's virility in an action series.
Henderson will take a break after his stint on "Grey's Anatomy." With no particular project to work on after, he revealed that his new movie will come out next year entitled "Strangers (Strangers: Prey at Night)."
The actor's character spent the last two seasons in "Grey's Anatomy" pursuing Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) until his former flame Megan Hunt arrived on the scene.
The love triangle showed many awkward moments during this season's past episodes with Meredith feeling bereft after she caught Nathan proposing to Megan. Nevertheless, Meredith is the doctor who made a medical milestone of performing skin graft transplant on Megan medical condition.
