Widespread reports about “Game of Thrones” actor, Kit Harington (Jon Snow in the show), asking his long-time girlfriend, Rose Leslie (Wilding Ygritte) to marry him, began appearing over the weekend. As noted by The Sun, Leslie apparently said "yes" and the couple plans on getting married soon. While most fans are going crazy over this news, a particular eagle-eyed follower has pointed out an observation. After Harington confirmed his engagement to Rose Leslie through an article in The Times newspaper, the follower read up both their Wikipedia pages.
They discovered that the two are actually distant cousins. He immediately took to his Twitter account to post the information, which later went viral.
Kit Harington’s history
The Sun pointed out observations made by people about the couple. These included, "Through his paternal grandmother, Lavender Cecilia Denny, Harington's eighth-great-grandfather was Charles II of England." and "Meanwhile, Rose's says: "Her mother is Candida Mary Sibyl 'Candy' Leslie (nee Weld) of Clan Fraser, maternal great-granddaughter of Simon Fraser, 13th Lord Lovat, and descendant of Charles II of England."'
The two never speak of their royal connection
Fraser is identified as being the thirteenth Lord Lovat and is a direct descendant of Charles II of England.
On the basis of this, it can be assumed that the two are distantly related. According to an online report, neither of the two have ever spoken about their connections to the royal family. They have been in a relationship since 2013. It was only in late 2016 that Harington confirmed his relationship with Leslie. Earlier this year, the duo moved into Harington’s house together.
They are extremely thrilled to be by each other’s side.
Harington's message
Harington posted an ad in The Times newspaper. The ad reads that Mr. K.C. Harington’s engagement has formally been announced with Miss. R.E. Leslie. The two first met on the set of “Game of Thrones.” They were playing on-screen lovers, Jon and Ygritte.
According to Harington, this made falling in love with his now-fiancee much easier.
Rose’s character was killed off in “Game of Thrones” season 4. Therefore, she was no longer a part of the show. They kept their relationship low profile for the longest time possible. A source close to Harington was reported by The Sun as saying that Harington, however always planned on marrying Rose.
