Ben Mendelsohn, the “Mississippi Grind” star, is eyed by the "Captain Marvel" directors for a new villain role. In an exclusive report by Variety, Mendelsohn is set to portray an antagonist role, who would likely be the leader of the Skrulls. Further, Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios chief, previously teased that aliens would also be featured in the film. As of now, the studio has not commented on the movie's casting.
However, it was revealed that Brie Larson is set to star in the title role together with Kevin Feige producing. While everyone prepares for the filming, it was reported that Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman were already penning the scripts
A film set in the 90s
"Captain Marvel" is one of the most anticipated films to be produced by Feige. During the recent San Diego Comic Conference, the production revealed that the superhero film is set to feature a story in the 90s. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who wrote the most recent script, added that the film centers on an Air Force pilot whose DNA has been fused with an unidentified alien.
With this alteration, the Air Force pilot will gain superpowers in terms of strength, flight, and energy protection. Meanwhile, Samuel Jackson is also eyed to reprise his role as Nick Fury in the movie. The film is expected to be released on March 8, 2019. While movie directors have eyed Mendelsohn as the new Big Bad, the actor has also agreed to work on his upcoming role.
Studio's first female-led film
While the film's details were kept under wraps, it was confirmed that Marvel Studios have recruited Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to direct the first female-led movie. After an exhausting director search, it was reported by Collider that the directorial duo had previously worked with Mendelsohn on his previous film, “Mississippi Grind." The actor was also part of other comic book films like "The Dark Night Rises," where he earned praise for his performance as Una.
He is also set to star in an upcoming drama, " The Darkest Hour," by Winston Churchill. Mendelsohn is set to star alongside Gary Oldman. While he prepares for his new villain role in "Captain Marvel," Mendelsohn was also known for his famous antagonist role in the Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One." Without a doubt, he is the best actor who can get to play as the new villain of the film considering his track records as a villainous character in the different comic book movies. Stay tuned.
