For the first time, fans will have a glimpse of Supreme Leader Snoke in his real form, out from the hologram, in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” trailer. However, his real identity remains a big mystery. It has been said that the backstory of First Order’s leader won’t be revealed in “Episode 8.”
But, it looks like Andy Serkis, who plays the villain’s role, perfectly knows Snoke’s real personality. In an interview with IGN, the 53-year-old actor was asked about his character’s characteristics, although he remained tight-lipped about it.
Snoke’s story might be in development
“Oh yeah, absolutely I know it,” Andy Serkis told IGN about Supreme Leader Snoke’s backstory while promoting his directorial debut “Breathe.”
The “War for the Planet Apes” star often said in his previous interviews that fans wouldn't get to see who the real Snoke in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is. Although his latest statement didn’t reveal much about the mysterious villain, it looks like the big bad’s background is now shaping to have his own narrative. To recall, he earlier said that he was just making up his own history to portray the scoundrel's role perfectly.
Lucasfilm also let Rian Johnson tell his own Snoke story while J.J. Abrams has set a number of story beats up that other writers could work out.
With that, the baddie might have no specific tale to tell, although they might be working on it. It might be good to know that aside from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, directors Johnson, and Abrams, Serkis now knows details on his character’s story.
Although Johnson asserted that Snoke’s backstory would never be featured in “Episode 8,” with what Serkis’ said, it looks like his tale might be revealed in “Star Wars: Episode 9.” To recall, Comicbook reported that the director’s motivations would be explored.
In fact, he even compared Snoke to Emperor Palpatine from the original trilogy. His backstory was also later revealed in the prequels.
Serkis on the new trailer and Johnson
Meanwhile, Andy Serkis also talked about the recently unveiled “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” trailer and Rian Johnson’s take on the movie.
“I thought the trailer was spectacular and very intense,” he said.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” actor revealed that the teaser perfectly unveiled the movie’s “tone and feel.” He even teased that “Episode 8” will surely surprise the moviegoers with its different plotline, story, and the tension it has to offer.
Talking about Johnson, he said that he is a “fine, fine director.” The filmmaker managed to own the “Star Wars” universe, and he is also a great director. “He’s really inspiring,” he added. With that, he loved spending time on the set, and he just made a great movie.
