Pop music icon Ariana Grande allegedly fired one of her female dancers for posting racial slurs on social media, Capital FM reported. The singer is currently on the final leg of her “Dangerous Woman” concert tour featuring her biggest hits.
Choreographer and musician Lady Cultura posted statements on social media containing the “N-word,” which has been associated with a racially offensive meaning.
The statements were made toward reggaeton artist Ozuna, Revelist noted in their report.
After the statements made the rounds online and after fans flocked to Lady Cultura’s account, Grande immediately unfollowed this Backup Dancer on social media. She later fired the dancer, allegedly banning her from participating in her shows. Then, the estranged dancer removed all her photos on Instagram, the report continued.
Lady Cultura
Lady Cultural used the N-word in the shout-out video she dedicated to co-artist Ozuna. Her official profile said that she has Cuban roots and also has African lineage. Because of her background, fans are doubting whether she should be reprimanded for her statements.
According to The Huffington Post, the N-word is a term that is mainly used among African-American communities or Black people. It only becomes offensive and derogatory when used by people outside their community.
There are various African-American rappers who have used the word in their music and in their own right, such as Fat Joe who also has Cuban roots. Revelist said that the Latin community usually does not receive criticism when using the word. However, Latina singer Jennifer Lopez received backlash when she used the N-word in one of her songs several years ago.
Ariana Grande’s concert
Meanwhile, for Ariana Grande, the show goes on now that her concert tour is approaching its final run. During her concert in Taiwan, she almost slipped on stage because of a footwork error in the choreography of her song, “Side To Side.” She posted some videos of the slip on her official social media accounts.
On September 21, the pop singer is slated to perform her final show in Hong Kong, touted as a security nightmare for authorities and the police.
Hong Kong security will provide anti-terrorism teams during the concert to prevent another incident such as the one that happened in Manchester, the South China Morning Post reported. Hours before the start of the show on Thursday night, a large group of fans were already waiting outside the Asia-World Expo Arena in Hong Kong.
