Did you catch the premiere of “Outlander” Season 3 on Starz? “The Battle Joined” aired on September 10 and it followed Diana Gabaldon’s novel, “Voyager”. Sam Heughan’s Jamie Fraser fought against the British and Caitriona Balfe's Claire Randall is back in 1940. Spoilers from the newest episode will be mentioned in this article.
It looks like “Black Jack” Randall (Tobias Menzies) finally met his demise but the battle left so many scars for Jamie Fraser played by Sam Heughan now that Claire played by Caitriona Balfe is not with him to cope with the aftermath.
Claire Randall is in her own time, pregnant with Brianna, hers and Jamie’s child. But her relationship with her husband, Frank Randall, is definitely on the rocks. But when it comes to speaking up about sexism, Claire is not someone who easily backs out.
‘Outlander’ Season 3 couple answers fans’ questions
To celebrate the premiere of season 3, Heughan and Balfe made an appearance in an event on September 5. The pair answered a series of questions about the behind-the-scenes of “Outlander”.
Balfe revealed that the first episode of season 3 was shot more than a year ago. And the excitement of shooting the “Battle of Culloden”, is still lingering in Heughan.
The shoot lasted for a couple of days with many extras. Balfe did the scene where she walks in the battlefield to wake Jamie, for more than 12 hours.
Heughan talks about his favorite Season 3 scenes
Heughan revealed that his favorite part was shooting with a rabbit saying, “We shot [a scene with] the rabbit at the end of this season when we are doing pick-ups. We had this studio set up.”
He even continued saying, “so we had some fake dead bodies on the ground and then I had to pretend, I am trying to remember what I was doing and then there was this little rabbit running around. He would never do what [the director] wanted. So, it was my favorite day.”
He also revealed an intimate scene with Tobias Menzies lying over him for some nights, pretending to be dead.
Balfe also went on to answer a question from one fan about the kind of role she wants in Broadway. Both of them shared an interest in being in “The Lover”, a Harold Pinter play.
Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe admitted that they were not so sure if the show will last longer than they expected. But after the two successful seasons of "Outlander" and with the third and fourth seasons in tow, Jamie and Claire have surely made an impact on the small screen.
