She relayed that Jason's death would render some challenges for her and for Betty.
Mendes added on to note, "Expect things to get even darker. In season one, we were testing the waters, and in season two, we're really diving in. We've fully submerged ourselves into the thriller genre, and the obstacles that our characters will face are terrifying."
The statement that Mendes provided may seem ominous and given the fact that a lot of speculations have already circulated, viewers could not help but wonder if these predictions would fully unfold in the upcoming episodes of "Riverdale" season 2.
Looking back on the previous season of 'Riverdale'
It is undeniable that the past season of "Riverdale" ended in a cliffhanger.
Owing to that, a lot of things remain unsettled for Veronica, Betty, Jughead and the rest of the cast of the series. As for Archie, the upcoming season would be more painful since the last episode showcased how Archie's dad was shot and clinging for life.
The finale episode of the past season of "Riverdale" depicted a masked gunman and there are insinuations that the man who shot Archie's dad might be the same person that brutally killed Jason Bloom.
Also, even though the promotional poster of the upcoming season revealed a complete cast, the word "Pop" at the background still spells death for the upcoming season.

The forthcoming season will not only show the challenges and the terrifying scenes, but it would also showcase a collision of two people as they fought for love and attention.
As love and hate collides for Betty, many are hopeful that Jughead will choose Betty over Toni Topaz, played by Vanessa Morgan.
It has been confirmed that Vanessa Morgan will join the cast and crew of "Riverdale" when it returns on the limelight. Her role would be Toni Topaz and she is presumed to be a possible rival for Betty in getting Jughead's love and affection.
