Creators ofRick and Morty have taken the series to a whole new level with its third season. Adult Swim’s viewership has sky-rocketed. Newer concepts, unexplored angles, and never-seen-before settings have all led to the success of the science-fiction comedy. Up till now, around eight episodes have premiered. The third season’s ninth episode is titled, “The Rickchurian Mortydate,” and is scheduled to launch on Sunday, October 1 at 11:30 PM. According to a report by Den of Geek, the latest episode titled, “The ABCs of Beth,” took an emotional turn but also lost the plot along the way.

Plot of the show

Since the very first season, “Rick and Morty” has been successful at gradually revealing key details of its main characters. The same was expected from “The ABCs of Beth.” The Den Of Geek report states that they expected the eighth episode to revolve around Beth, and focus on her relationship with the father, Rick. This was assumed because Beth has mostly taken screen presence when it comes to arguing with Jerry.

What Beth and Rick are up to?

In the last episode, Beth is seen going on an adventure with Rick on the latter’s imaginary island, “Froopyland.” She is seen having a realization that Rick isn’t that great of a person. Despite this, she is accepting him and loves him nonetheless.

This revelation feels abrupt as there is no background information (to what leads her to feel this way) made available for viewers in the episode. Instead, the focus is primarily applied on Beth’s childhood.

Rick reveals how she would often force him to create “weird” products which represented a rather sociopathic behavior.

Beth was made to realize that she contained the characteristics of a potential serial killer. At the same time, Rick himself has such characteristics and thus, didn’t find it surprising. More will be revealed in the upcoming episode.

Both characters are seen going on a journey to find Beth’s childhood friend, Tommy (Thomas Middleditch).

As noted by Den of Geek, the eighth episode appeared to be overstuffed with emotions but without any depth or context. The report describes the episode as being messy this time. All throughout, there’s a song called “I Got a Doo-Doo in my Butt,” playing for no rhyme or reason. This all and more only leads to confusing the fans even more. This did not necessarily affect the viewership. Adult Swim has managed to gain more popularity as the seasons pass by.
