Warner Bros. closes historic deal with Patty Jenkins
As fans may know, the “Wonder Woman” sequel was announced a month after the film’s release and it was also confirmed that Gal Gadot, who played the titular role in the movie, would reprise her role. However, the involvement of Jenkins was not confirmed. Though it was rumored that she was the top contender for the job, it was not a done deal, so fans were a little worried. However, the rumors that emerged in-between, about her working on the script with Geoff Johns had everyone excited and now it is confirmed.
Patty Jenkins leaves behind Nancy Meyers
Sources claim that Jenkins received a record-breaking sum, ranging between $7 million - $9 million for the sequel, a jaw-dropping hike from her previous fee of $1 million.
The fee is the highest for any female director in Hollywood and she has surpassed Nancy Meyers, who earned around $5 million when she was at her peak. What is more, she would also be getting a share in the box office collections. However, it has not come easy for Jenkins as she had to negotiate for the whopping signing amount.
As fans may remember, Jenkins was not the first choice of Warner Bros. to direct “Wonder Woman.” She stepped in after Michelle MacLaren exited the project, due to creative differences.
'Wonder Woman 2' set in 80s
In the meantime, it has also been revealed that the sequel is set in the 1980s. Insiders suggest that the next film revolving around the Amazonian Princess will see her fighting the Soviet Union forces when the Cold War is on its concluding note.
However, the events will take place in the United States only. Fans should get ready for a magical second installment of the blockbuster female superhero film that has grossed $816 million worldwide and has also earned critical acclaim for its portrayal of "Wonder Woman" and fine direction.
“Wonder Woman 2” is slated to arrive in theaters on Dec. 13, 2019, but fans will get to see Wonder Woman this year as well in “Justice League” as it is due to arrive in theaters on Nov. 17.
