Arie Luyendyk Jr. has been announced as "The Bachelor" 2018 and the fans can't wait to see how it goes. This really surprised a lot of people because they thought that it would be someone from Rachel Lindsay's season of "The Bachelorette," but that wasn't the way that the show decided to go. Now, it is being revealed that one of his ex-girlfriends actually applied for the show, but the funny thing is she had no idea he would be the one cast when she applied.

Sydney Stempfley applied for the show

Sydney Stempfley applied to be on "The Bachelor," but then she later found out that Arie would be the guy handing out roses.

An insider shared the details about it saying, "She actually applied to be on this season herself after her breakup with Arie. She said she did that before she knew Arie would be the Bachelor." It sounds like she was just looking for love and thought this was a good way to find it. It would be pretty surprising if she expected Arie to get the job considering he was on the show so long ago.

Sydney and Arie were a couple for about a year, but they broke up last July. Things didn't work out. The source actually said that she still wants to be on the show. Maybe she wants to try and win over Arie or maybe she is someone that is just looking to be on reality television.

Could Sydney join anyway?

They are always doing crazy twists on "The Bachelor," so it shouldn't be surprising to anyone that they might decide to bring her on the show.

Arie might not want her there, but Sydney would get her chance to be on reality television. They love to throw things like this out there and just see what happens. If they did cast her, you know they wouldn't tell Arie until she showed up.

Arie Luyendyk Jr. did share that he had been talks over the last few years to possibly do the show.

It sounds like he even talked about it while he was with Syndey or around that time. He has now finally been cast in the leading role and will have a chance to find love. The filming will start soon, but you won't be able to see Arie's season on television until January of 2018. Now it is time for a new season of "Dancing With the Stars" to air.

Are you shocked to hear that Arie's ex-girlfriend applied to be on the show? Do you feel like they could still bring her on as a twist? Sound off in the comments below, and don't miss new episodes of "The Bachelor" 2018 with Arie Luyendyk Jr. starting in January on ABC.
