Except for Littlefinger and Viserion the dragon, not a single one of the major characters died in "Game of Thrones" Season 7. But that's about to change in Season 8. The Great War is coming, and no one is safe -- no one protected by the plot armor anymore. And given the fact that the story slowly moves toward its end, the death count is going to be the biggest one yet.
However, in this article, we are going to focus on Varys the Spider and his death. So without further ado, let's try to figure out how it all ends for Varys.
Varys' death foreshadowed?
Except for repeatedly failing at his job as Master of Whisperers, Varys didn't really do much during "Game of Thrones" Season 7. However, he was featured in a couple of interesting scenes, and the two of them clearly foreshadowed his death.
The first one was when Daenerys accused Varys of conspiring with King Robert to have her killed in season one. And even though he managed to talk his way out of the uncomfortable situation, Daenerys ended up threatening to burn him alive if he betrays her.
The second one came only an episode later when he was engaged in what turned out to be a very uncomfortable conversation with Melisandre. There she went straight up telling him how they will both die in this strange country that is Westeros.
We've never seen Varys so terrified as he was back then, except maybe that one time when Kinvara, the other Red Priestess, told him that she knows what the voice in flames said when he was mutilated. And she also said that he has nothing to fear if he is Daenerys' true friend.
What did the voice say?
In "Game of Thrones" Season 3, Varys told Tyrion a story of how he was cut.
He was traveling with a group of actors when his master sold him to a sorcerer who then proceeded to cut Varys' man parts in what was definitely a blood magic ritual. It was when the sorcerer tossed the parts in the fire, that the voice in the flames replied. And ever since then Varys has hated magic and all those who practice it.
What the voice said remains a mystery to this day and all we can do is to take a proper guess. Perhaps the voice said that Varys would be burned alive one day. That would certainly explain why he hates the Lord of Light religion and all the magic that comes with it. After all, Varys specifically says that he still dreams of that voice which further implies that he knows what the voice said.
Now, with all this in mind, our theory is that at some point Varys will betray Daenerys, if he didn't already, and he will end up being burned alive by her dragons because of it.
