In “Game of Thrones” Season 7 episode 5 we learned that Cersei is pregnant with Jaime’s child. This would be the fourth child she has out of incest. However, an old prophecy revealed that she might lose this child.
Episode 5 recap
In “Eastwatch,” we saw how Jaime reacted when he learned from Cersei that she is pregnant with their child. At first, he could not believe his ears when his sister told him that he is the father of her unborn child. He was surprised at first then thrilled the next. Of course, at the back of his mind he also thought about what the people might say.
However, Cersei reminded him about the saying their father Tywin used to tell them, “The lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep.” This means she does not care at all whether the people find out that her child is born out of incest. She wants to see the baby born, no matter what the people say.
A prophecy predicts the child’s death
However, the child may never be born. Cersei and Jaime may never see another Lannister bloodline, if we were to believe an old prophecy. Viewers may remember Maggy the Frog’s prediction. In a flashback scene in “Game of Thrones” Season 5, she told the teenage Cersei that she will marry a king and she will become queen. She also told her how many children she will have.
She will have three. All these came true. Cersei married King Robert Baratheon and now she is queen of The Seven Kingdoms. She also had three children with Jaime: Joffrey, Tommen and Myrcella, who sadly all died. This means there is a possibility that Cersei will lose her fourth child.
It is also worth mentioning that Maggy the Frog predicted the arrival of Daenerys Targaryen.
She told Cersei that she will only be queen for a time, since another—“younger, more beautiful,” will take all that she holds dear. It does not necessarily mean that Daenerys is to blame for the death of her unborn child, but she plays a part. We already saw someone dear to Cersei walk away—Jaime. In the Season 7 finale of “Game of Thrones,” he left her to join Daenerys and Jon Snow in the battle against the White Walkers.
According to speculations, Cersei loses her child after Jaime leaves Kings Landing.
Cersei is not pregnant
Then again, there is also the possibility that Cersei is not pregnant. According to Refinery, showrunner David Benoiff hinted that she lied about her pregnancy to manipulate her brothers. It is her way of securing Jaime’s loyalty. She even made sure that Tyrion saw her touching her belly during their one-on-one talk after their meeting at the Dragonpit in Episode 7. “It's a little bit of a poker game they're playing there because it seems like she's bluffing and he reads her bluff," Benoiff said.
