Hollywood celebrities donated millions of dollars to Texas which was badly hit by Hurricane Harvey. Thousands of houses were destroyed and massive rainfall created many problems for local Texans. Texas suffered more than $40 billion in losses but people all over the country are donating funds to support the government in efforts to help the survivors.
Sandra Bullock's generosity towards Texas
According to CNN, Sandra Bullock has donated one million dollars to the American Red Cross to help Texans who lost their livelihood in the flood. She said in a statement that "I'm just grateful I can do it. "We have to take care of one another." Bullock owns a home in Austin and New Orleans.
A spokesperson for the red cross said, "Massive disasters like Hurricane Harvey create many critical and immediate needs, so we are heartened by donations like this -- which allow us to provide immediate shelter, food and comfort to thousands in need," CNN reported.
Bullock shows a lot of kindness and helped many times after disasters.
She donated $1 million following other calamities, such as Hurricane Katrina, the 9/11 attacks, the 2004 Tsunami in Indonesia and also donated to the Haiti earthquake relief effort. On Tuesday, Kim Kardashian's family also pledged to donate half million dollars to the Red Cross and Salvation Army.
Celebrities pledged to give thousand of dollars to Texas
Newsweek reported that American actor and comedian, Kevin Hart started his own campaign to raise funds for the people who are suffering in Texas after Hurricane Harvey. He started a challenge called the Hurricane Harvey Relief Challenge and invited all his friends to dig into the challenge. He said," I'm challenging a lot of my celebrity friends to follow my lead." His challenge encouraged many stars including, Chris Brown, Dj Khaled, Dwyane Johnson, Steve Harvey, Justin Timberlake etc.
Leonardo DiCaprio's foundation donated $1 million to the United Way Harvey Recovery (UWHR) Fund which is a newly established. DiCaprio and his foundation helped the victims of 2004 Tsunami, the Haiti earthquake, and 2005 Hurricane Katrina. The CEO and president of UWHR, Brian Gallagher said in a statement that "We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Leonardo DiCaprio and his foundation," CBS reported.
Many stars pledged to help Texas including Beyonce who comes from Houston. Dwayne Johnson, DJ Khaled donated $25,000 each and Miley Cyrus, $500,000 to Harvey's relief.
According to the UWHR, it will take years to restore the damage in Texas.
