Netflix is yet to air the “The Crown” season 2 this November but some major details about the royal drama’s third season had already come out. One major news about “The Crown” season 3 is that its cast will be entirely new.
There is no official announcement yet as to who will inherit the crown from Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II as well as who will replace the other members of the original casts. However, one intriguing character was confirmed to appear in the third season, Camilla Parker Bowles and this said to have caused “unease” at Clarence House.
'The Crown's' third season to introduce Camilla
“The Crown” producer Suzanne Mackie confirmed to the media during the BFI & Radio Times Festival in London Q and A, that the character of Camilla Parker Bowles will appear in season 3.
Mackie said that creator Peter Morgan “is already talking about the most wonderful things” for the coming seasons of the series and then she added that “we start meeting Camilla Parker Bowles in season three." There is no word yet as to who will play her character in the third season.
Unease at Clarence House?
The UK’s Daily Mail reported that “there’s unease” at Clarence House as regards the introduction of Camilla’s character in “The Crown” season 3. According to the report, the series will depict her days as Prince’s Charles fun-loving girlfriend during the 70’s.
The Prince of Wales and Camilla were said to have first met in the early 1970's; however, Camilla went on to marry Guards officer, Andrew Parker Bowles, in July 1973. It was reported that the prince was disconsolate writing to his great-uncle and mentor, the late Lord Mountbatten: ‘I suppose the feeling of emptiness will pass eventually.’
Prince Charles went on to marry the late Princess Diana on July of 1981.
Later on, when the marriage of Charles and Diana became unstable, Diana referred to Camilla in the explosive interview with Martin Bashir in Panorama, saying "There were three of us in this marriage."
Despite all the controversies in the past three decades since the two first met, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles eventually married in a civil ceremony on April 9, 2005.
Camilla is now the HRH Duchess of Cornwall.
New casts for “The Crown” 3 and 4
Claire Foy and Matt Smith will not return after season 2 as their characters, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip will be recast. This is because the two actors will look younger for their characters.
The second season covers eight years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign from 1956-1964. The third season of “The Crown” is expected to cover the ensuing years, which by then, Queen Elizabeth will be middle age. Thus, an older actor must play her part.
It is not only Foy and Smith, but the entire cast will be changed for the third and fourth seasons because of the same reason. As “The Crown” was said to air for six seasons, another recast is expected for the fifth and sixth as the series will depict an older Queen Elizabeth II.
