The Marvel TV series Agents of SHIELD is known for its overly close tie-in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Several characters from the film have made appearances on the small screen, including Nick Fury himself at the end of the show’s first season. Little do fans know, there was one character from one of the entries in the film series that was slated to appear on Agents of SHIELD but did not push through.

Agent 13 would've appeared following debut in Winter Soldier

This was revealed during an interview by Deadline with Emily Vancamp, the actress who played Agent 13 on Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Agent 13 was eventually revealed as related to Agent Peggy Carter, Captain America’s love interest in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Peggy was also the protagonist of the now-defunct Marvel TV series, Agent Carter.

During the interview, VanCamp revealed that Marvel had discussed plans to schedule an appearance by Agent 13 on Agents of SHIELD. This would’ve taken place right after her debut appearance in Winter Soldier. However, the actress said that she was committed to another project for the small screen and the appearance was eventually scrapped.

“I think it was discussed, but I was working on Revenge at the time,” VanCamp is quoted as saying. She also said that the secrecy surrounding Marvel’s film projects is absolute, that cast members like herself would not know of any cameo appearances until only a day before the actual shoot.

She also said that she has also not received any information about the impending return of her character in future Marvel movies.

Future projects

However, she hinted that she might be interested in appearing in the upcoming Captain Marvel feature film. “You guys put it out there,” she told the interviewer when she was asked if she might appear in that future film.

The movie will be released on March 8, 2019 and will star Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson, his first appearance in an MCU film since 2014’s Captain America: Winter Soldier.

VanCamp is set to busy this season too. She will star in FOX’s upcoming new series, The Resident. The series’ first season was announced in May of this year.

Emily VanCamp revealed no plot details during the interview, except to say that she will be playing a nurse.

Agents of SHIELD future uncertain?

It was announced in May of this year that Agents of SHIELD will return for the fifth season, after a fourth season that tackled a darker tone than previous entries in the series. The news was first leaked by Marissa Tancharoen herself, one of the executive producers of the series, through a tweet on May 11. The tweet was deleted shortly, but ABC confirmed the renewal when it announced its slate of TV shows for 2017.

However, ABC has not confirmed when the premiere date would be, although it has revealed that Agents of SHIELD will now air Friday nights instead of the previous Tuesdays.

Because there have been no plot details revealed, there are many theories from fans as to what the fifth season would be about, including the possibility that a space organization called SWORD might make an appearance based on the season 4 finale.
