The Internet has exploded after "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds released the first photographs of actor Josh Brolin as the comic book character Cable. No one is a bigger fan of the release than the creator of the character himself. Rob Liefeld’s social media accounts are abuzz with his enthusiasm at the first look at Mr. Brolin as Cable in the upcoming "Deadpool 2" movie.
“This is... Great! No one is having a better day than me!” Liefeld was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter (THR) as saying. The comic book writer responsible for bringing Cable to life in 1990 said that he saw the fan’s positive response to Josh Brolin’s portrayal, and described it as “100% euphoria, praise, and excitement.” These are all feelings that he shared with everybody in the aftermath of the reveal.
Reynolds is spearheading the highly effective viral marketing campaign for "Deadpool 2." According to The Independent, the actor released the first pictures of Josh Brolin as Cable on his Twitter account. True to his "Deadpool" character, Reynolds gave the image the caption: “Your premium Cable provider.”
A Surprise Casting
Brolin’s casting as Cable came as a surprise when it was first announced earlier this year. Reynolds’ character, Deadpool, has teased the possible casting of Russell Crowe in a post-credits scene in the first movie. Dolph Lundgren, Pierce Brosnan, Brad Pitt, David Harbor and Michael Shannon were also considered for the role.
Brolin is also involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing the villain Mad Titan Thanos, who is the main antagonist in the upcoming two-part “The Avengers: Infinity Wars” films set for release in 2018 and 2019.
His casting as Cable doesn't seem to be a problem with Marvel, despite the fact that Thanos is a very pivotal role in the MCU movies, and Cable is equally prominent in the Deadpool film franchise.
Brolin Can Play Both Thanos and Cable
David Leitch, the director of "Deadpool 2," told CinemaBlend that he thinks Marvel allowed Brolin to be cast as Cable despite his big role as Mad Titan Thanos in "The Avengers" films because both characters are different from one another.
“I think [Marvel and Fox] thought it as prudent and were okay in terms of the way Thanos is portrayed and Cable is portrayed,” the director was quoted as saying.
"Deadpool 2" is coming out in theaters on June 1st, 2018, barely a month after the release of Part 1 of "The Avengers: Infinity Wars." The film is expected to expand on the character of Colossus, a mutant who can transform into a hunk of steel at will.In addition to Cable, the sequel to Deadpool will also introduce Domino, who will link the stories of both Colossus and Cable.
