Tom Welling plays Marcus Pierce, a new love interest for Lauren German’s Chloe Decker in “Lucifer” season 3. Now, you might think that there is an instant romantic connection when they first meet. The opposite actually happens according to showrunner Joe Henderson, who teased some details about Welling’s character in the series.
Not love at first sight
Detective Chloe Decker and Lieutenant Marcus Pierce do not fancy each other right away. Henderson said that sparks do not fly when they first meet. It seems that Chloe finds Marcus unnerving. When Chloe first meets Lieutenant Marcus Pierce, he very much rubs her the wrong way.
This is because he is the "no-nonsense, calling-it-like-it-is guy." Henderson told Entertainment Weekly that Marcus is not much into social mores.
However, Marcus has another side that apparently draws Chloe to him. Henderson revealed that the lieutenant “represents a lot of truth and justice.” He represents a lot of the things that draw Chloe to the side of the law. This mutual belief is apparently what draws them together. Likewise, Marcus has traits that are similar to Lucifer Morningstar’s, which only brings Chloe closer to him.
Marcus Pierce is no Lucifer Morningstar
The lieutenant is the total opposite of the Lord of Darkness. While Lucifer is the sociable type (flirtatious at most), Marcus is not.
The devil also likes to have fun even while at work. From what Henderson said, Marcus Pierce is the serious type who likes to get things done.
Regardless, both also share similar qualities. They are charming and charismatic. Not to mention good looking. Marcus’ duality, according to Henderson, is what pulls Chloe Decker close to the lieutenant.

Welling’s Marcus Pierce is different from his role as Clark Kent in “Smallville.” Clark did not know who he was at first and did not know how to utilize his abilities. In “Lucifer” Marcus is the total opposite of Clark. He is confident of his skills and knows how to use them. Marcus very much knows what he is capable of.
He knows what he wants to do and knows how to do it.
When will we see Marcus Pierce?
Details about Welling’s debut as the lieutenant in “Lucifer” Season 3 remain under wraps. However, we have our first look at the character courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. In the photo, we see Marcus at his desk looking all serious. Welling also shared some behind-the-scenes photos on his Instagram.
