David Tennant has been cast in the upcoming television adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's novel "Good Omens." According to The Guardian, Amazon has ordered a six-episode series of the book to TV adaptation, and Pratchett's long-time assistant Rob Wilkins has been working on the project.
"Good Omens" tells the story of an angel, Aziraphale, and demon, Crowley, as they try to stop the apocalypse from occurring after the birth of the character Adam. It turns out that Adam is the antichrist and that the angel and devil team must travel to Oxfordshire in order to prevent the apocalypse from happening.
Joining David Tennant on the screen will be actor Michael Sheen who will be taking on the role of Aziraphale. Tennant has commented on the choice of casting and has stated that he is incredibly excited to be a part of the project.
He stated that he and Sheen will make a dream team and hope to please fans with their portrayals of famous characters Crowley and Aziraphale.
Terry Pratchett would have loved to see his book come to life in this TV adaptation
Terry Pratchett co-wrote the novel "Good Omens" with fellow writer Neil Gaiman who he sent a letter to state that he has permission to turn the novel into an adaptation.
Pratchett organized to have this letter sent after the time of his death. Wilkins has stated that since Pratchett's death, his job is to make sure that people still remember his name.
In a report by the Verge, Wilkins has confirmed that Terry would love to have been able to see his work come to life on the small screen. He also claimed that Pratchett would be over the moon with the choice of casting as he was a huge fan of David Tennant.
Wilkins stated that people can be sure that Terry Pratchett is looking down at them and is utterly pleased with the work that the team is undertaking.
According to the Verge, Amazon will be changing the book ever so slightly to make it more relatable to today's audience. They are doing a modern-day take on "Good Omens" and have stated that the series is due to be released next year in 2018, though the exact release date has not been confirmed.
