"Dancing with the Stars" fans weren't happy when Sasha Farber's name wasn't on the list of pros returning to the upcoming season of ABC's popular dance competition show. Loyal viewers began to question why his name wasn't announced on "Good Morning America" along with the other pros last week. Then on Monday, it was announced that the 33-year-old former pro would return but as a member of the troupe. That's good because his fans still will be able to see him on the show, but is that a demotion?
One person asked on Instagram if it was Sasha's choice.
Then others said it couldn't be a demotion considering how good he has been the last couple of seasons with Terra Jolé and Simone Biles. Sasha coached them well and took them far in the competition.
Troupe vs. pros
The show introduced the troupe in Season 12. The troupe consists of professional dancers who perform on the show, but they do not have celebrity partners to coach. Peta Murgatroyd was part of the very first troupe. Season 25 troupe includes Sasha Farber and Jenna Johnson among others.
Many of the other pros started out as members of the troupe, such as Sasha's financée Emma Slater, Witney Carson, Lindsay Arnold, Artem Chigvintsev, Sharna Burgess, Gleb Sachenko and Keo Motsepe.
Alan Bersten has been promoted from a troupe member to a pro after five seasons.
It probably happened because he did so well last season when he partnered with Heather Morris when he replaced Maks Chmerkovskiy when Maks was out after having a calf injury.
About Sasha
Sasha was a troupe member before becoming a pro in Season 17 with partner Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi. After that season, he went back to being a troupe member for four more seasons.
Then he was promoted to a pro in Seasons 22-24 when he danced with Kim Fields, Terra Jolé, and Simone Biles. All of his partners are short. So, people wondered if Sasha isn't a pro this season because there are no short celebrities who will be part of the cast. However, that seems like an unlikely reason to put him back as a troupe member.
About Jenna
Jenna was a pro in Season 23 and partnered with Jake T. Austin. They were the first to be eliminated, so she didn't get a lot of coaching time. Jenna filled in for Sharna Burgess a few weeks last season when Sharna suffered a knee injury. Most of Jenna's time on "Dancing With The Stars" has been as a troupe member from Season 18 to Season 22.
Jenna, 23, and pro champion Val Chmerkovskiy, 31, are dating and they appear to be so much in love. He calls her his "queen."
