To say that Chris Brown and Rihanna's breakup ended on a sour note can be considered an understatement. Their fans were shocked when news broke out that Rihanna was a victim of domestic violence which in turn, greatly affected Chris Brown's career. There were legal woes looming over Brown and he ended up pleading guilty to assaulting his girlfriend on the eve of the 51st Grammy Awards. Their on and off relationship constantly made the headlines but the Barbadian singer eventually decided to leave the alleged abusive relationship for good in 2009.

After pleading guilty to assaulting Rihanna, Chris Brown's career has gone downhill.

Although he still got offered some gigs here and there, released new songs and had international tours, the stigma that he hit his girlfriend never really washed off. It has been almost eight years since their breakup but the former couple made it to the headlines once again when Brown commented on a photo posted by Rihanna on her official Instagram account.

Separate lives

According to CNN, Chris Brown commented on an Instagram photo posted by Rihanna on Monday where she was wearing a very revealing outfit for the 2017 Crop Over Festival in Barbados. The "Loyal" singer seemed to try to be discreet and simply left an emoji of a pair of eyes looking to the left - the same emoji that Nick Jonas left on Hilary Duff's sexy pool photo.

As expected, this sent the fans of Rihanna in a frenzy, with most of them commenting that Brown should stay away from the "Diamonds" singer. Currently, she is romantically linked to a business mogul and photos of them on vacation were all over the internet a month ago. Rihanna has yet to reply to Brown's Instagram comment and has not released a statement about the issue either.

A changed man?

During the peak of his court case against the assault, Chris Brown said that he himself was shocked at his actions. In an interview with Larry King in 2009, Chris Brown said that what he did was not really who he is as a person. Eventually, the court implemented a restraining order that mandated them to cut off all communications with each other and maintain a certain distance apart.

According to CNN, the "assault took him 'from being on top of the world, No. 1 songs, being kind of like America's sweetheart to being Public Enemy No. 1.'"

Meanwhile, Rihanna opened up by saying their relationship hovered on a dangerous line between love and obsession. The "Umbrella" singer divulged that the more they fell in love with each other, the more dangerous their relationship became.
