“Agents of SHIELD” star Chloe Bennet is by far one of the hottest actresses on television. Bennet showcased a bada** role as Agent Daisy Johnson and she continues to mesmerize viewers with her Metahuman powers. She is also called “Quake,” possessing abilities that can cause earthquakes
The 25-year-old actress was a bit controversial after updating a post on Instagram. She addressed Ed Skrein’s move to step down from playing Major Ben Daimio in the upcoming “Hellboy” reboot.
Why Chloe Bennet changed her surname
According to E! News, Major Ben Daimio is a character of Asian descent in the original comic.
Unfortunately, Skrein does not have Asian blood so he stepped back from the role. Bennet thanked him for taking such a bold step forward. She believes that it would not have been an easy move on his part.
When Bennet posted about this matter, a commenter asked why she changed her surname. Her real last name is Wang, which she changed to Bennet. She is an Asian American. As Bennet pointed out, changing her last name does not necessarily change the fact that she is still half-Chinese, speaks Mandarin and was raised in both American and Chinese culture. "It means I had to pay my rent, and Hollywood is racist and wouldn't cast me with the last name that made them uncomfortable,” Bennet added.
Now, the young star is doing everything that she can with the platform she has.
Bennet is proving to everyone that race does not matter. She shared how she wanted to pave the way for other Asian stars that will follow in her footsteps. Aspirants do not need to change their last name anymore just so they can get to work.
As for Skrein, the whitewashing backlash occurred after he was announced as the actor to play Major Ben Daimio.
He explained that he was unaware of the character’s mixed Asian heritage in the original comic but felt it right to step down once he found out the origins of the character.
Bennet returns to ‘Agents of SHIELD’
Chloe Bennet will be reprising her role in “Agent of SHIELD” Season 5. The series is rumored to air later this year after the eight episodes of ABC’s “Inhumans.” Her comments about Hollywood’s racism confused many people as she was starring alongside Agent May’s Ming Na Wen.
Chloe Bennet also works alongside Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, and more. As for Ed Skrein, many people think that he made the right choice. Watch out for updates about the new actor who will play his estranged character.
