“Avengers: Infinity War’s” cast has grown bigger with the addition of Irish actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor. It was Vaughan-Lawlor himself who confirmed in an interview by RTE Radio 1's Second Captains (via Dublin Live). When asked about his part in the film he confirmed, “… I am doing it and it's really amazing and an amazing thing to be part of."

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor did not reveal however the role or the character he will be playing in the much-anticipated Marvel superhero film set to be released next year. The actor said he can’t say too much about his participation only to give “generic and boring” responses due to “so many documents and waivers” he signed.

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor is known for his role in "Love/Hate," a tv series about organized crime in Dublin, Ireland. He was also in the films "The Infiltrator" (2016), "Peaky Blinders" (2013) and "The Secret Agent" (2016).

Fan theories

Fans and avid followers of “Avengers: Infinity War” are not completely in the dark about the Irish actor’s role as speculations are in complete agreement that he probably will play one of Thanos’ villainous allies, Ebony Maw.

This assumption is plausible because a picture was taken last month of Tom Vaughan-Lawlor on set, in a performance capture outfit, wrestling Doctor Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch. A revealing name tag of “EB MAW” can be seen as well upon a closer examination of the photo.

Who is Ebony Maw?

Ebony Maw’s character was confirmed to appear in "Avengers: Infinity War" by Marvel at the last D23 Expos. He is part of the group called The Black Order who will join Thanos in his battle against the Avengers.

Ebony Maw is probably the most dangerous of Thanos' lieutenants of the Black Order, not because of his physical power but his mental power.

A seducer and manipulator, Ebony Maw is reputedly a psychological mastermind.

According to Marvel lore, Ebony Maw was a member of Thanos' Black Order and is considered very dangerous because of his power of persuasion, deception, and manipulation. He can manipulate the minds of his victims to serve his own goals. Among them was Doctor Strange.

Ebony Maw was described as a "black tongue that spreads mischief and evil wherever he goes." As part of Thanos’ invasion plan, he was sent by the Mad Titan after Doctor Strange.

This enabled him to learn the secrets of the Illuminati as well as the location of Thanos' son Thane, who was an Inhuman.

Not known for his physical strength and fighting abilities, Ebony Maw equips himself with a powerful forcefield and teleportation technology.

"Avengers: Infinity War" will be released in the US on May 4, 2018.
