One of last year's most highly anticipated film came in the form of Marvel's "Doctor Strange," which anointed benedict cumberbatch as one of the newest MCU heroes to come into the fold. The film was supposedly part of the studio's Phase 3, but it came as a surprise when Marvel did not announce a sequel following the film's $677.7 million earnings.

Good news for fans of Cumberbatch, however, as his Marvel character is set to appear in "Avengers: Infinity War." In fact, the actor is already on set working on his scenes.

Benedict Cumberbatch's movement coach confirms his presence on set

According to Screenrant, Benedict Cumberbatch's movement coach, Jay Funk, took to Twitter to share that he and the actor are on set in Atlanta to film his scenes in the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War." He captioned his post, "The Doctor is in," along with a film emoji, signifying that Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange is definitely in the house.

While fans are wondering what has happened to "Doctor Strange 2," Marvel hasn't disclosed any plans for the sequel just yet. It may be the case that just like "Guardians of the Galaxy 3," the film may arrive after the upcoming "Infinity War" and fourth untitled "Avengers" movie. With such a large franchise of superhero films, Marvel may be looking to close the book on the Avengers first before moving on to their newer heroes, including "Black Panther," who is slated to arrive next year.

More Marvel films coming after the culmination of 'The Avengers' movies

Back in May, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige sat down with Collider to talk about the studio's future projects. It seems that their focus right now is completing the "Avengers" stories, as he said that "We’re not actively discussing anything past Untitled Avengers" when asked about "Doctor Strange 2."

It may be the case that a sequel will take place only after the events of "Infinity War" and the fourth film, given that Stephen Strange also plays a key role in those two films.

"Doctor Strange" introduced the existence of another Infinity Stone, making him a keeper of sorts. What happens to the Infinity Stone come "Infinity War" is yet to be found out when the film arrives on May 4, 2018.

The fourth "Avengers" film is set to arrive on May 2, 2019, while the upcoming "Thor: Ragnarok" will arrive this November 3. "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which brings back Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, will swing into theaters this July 7, 2017.
