The finale episode of “wentworth” Season 5 once again surprised everyone with what happened with Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe). Also known as “The Freak,” she got buried inside the box alive.

Now, fans are wondering if the former Governor of Wentworth Correctional Centre will survive being buried six feet underground. The Australian television drama’s executive producer Jo Porter even teased that the shocking finale episode is intentionally ended with a major cliffhanger to keep fans waiting for “Wentworth” Season 6.

A big cliffhanger

“It's definitely a storyline that continues on into season six,” Jo Porter told news.com.au.

When asked if The Freak would come out alive, she neither confirmed nor denied if she could get out of the grave. The TV producer also added that the antagonist can be “superhuman” sometimes, so she might handle the situation right. Hence, fans are now left hanging if they could still see Joan Ferguson in “Wentworth” Season 6 alive.

Moreover, she also explained that the theme for the show’s fifth season is “revenge.” The previous chapter’s final episode held the “bittersweet retribution” for the death of Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack). So, the result of the recent finale will be revealed in the coming next installment.

The Freak’s future

To recall, the finale episode of “Wentworth” Season 5 featured a brutal end to the fate of Joan Ferguson.

The Freak perfectly knows that she is about to meet her death after she managed to get out alive from the hands of the other women in the correctional. Thus, to escape a tragic event, she made a deal with Allie Novak (Kate Jenkinson). She then used her crate to get out of the prison, but Allie betrayed her and told Will Jackson (Robbie Magasiva) about her plan.

Although she managed to get out of the jail using her crate, the Wentworth prison guard buried her alive. With that, the fifth season’s finale ended with a major cliffhanger that made fans wonder if she will make it out of the grave alive. However, some believed that she could make herself get out of there.

The gory cutting scene

Meanwhile, aside from being buried alive, there is another scene that shocked the fans in “Wentworth” Season 5. It is Joan Ferguson's infamous tongue-cutting scene.

In an interview with KIIS FM's Kyle & Jackie O Show, Pamela Rabe revealed that she had to compartmentalize to do that shocking sequence with Lucy “Juicy” Gambaro (Sally Anne Upton). She narrated that she had to separate herself from her character as the slicing scene itself is quite horrific.
