Simone Biles is having a very good year. The Olympic gold medal gymnast has been doing great things since people fell in love with her during the Summer 2016 Rio Olympics. Her book, "Courage To Soar" that was released on November 15, 2016, details the sacrifices she made to get to the top of her career.
According to a press release on Friday, July 28, Lifetime is airing a biopic of the gymnast's life in early 2018.
This is good news, but it is not surprising. lifetime also aired a biopic of Gabby Douglas in 2014 after her 2012 Olympic wins.
About the biopic
As of now, there is no official title for the biopic. For now, it is simply called "The Simone Biles Story" which works just fine. The story will include Biles’ journey from foster care to the Olympics and everything in between. Her story is an inspirational one for little girls who are dreaming of being gymnasts one day. With 19 Olympic and World Championship medals, Biles has been described as one of the most decorated athletes in the world. She took over the title from Shannon Miller who held the record since 1993.
Now it belongs to Biles.
The 20-year-old gymnast has a life outside of the gymnasium. She was a contestant on the popular ABC dance reality show, "Dancing with the Stars." She did not win the championship, but she went far in the season with partner Sasha Farber. This might not be shown in the biopic because it goes beyond her wins at Rio.
To show how creative and versatile Simone is, fans should know that she will be one of the three executive producers of the movie. Therefore, she will have some control over what will be included. One of the other producers is her longtime agent.
Simone's wins
Expect to see Simone's journey to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and much of what happened when she was there with her "Final Five" team that included two 2012 Olympians Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas.
First time members of the team included Olympians Madison Kocian, Laurie Hernandez, and Simone Biles.
Biles' gold medal wins included the individual all-around, vault, and floor. The bronze medal she won was for her performance on the balance beam. Before Rio, Biles had won many other championships along the way to Rio. Certainly, those wins will be highlighted in the biopic.
Earlier this month, Biles won the ESPY Award for Best Female Athlete. She was the second gymnast to ever win that particular award. Up until then, Nastia Liukin was the only one who had won the award, and that was in 2009.
