As much as we'd love to see every amazing character remain for "Quantico" season 3, that just isn't realistic. The actors' contracts would have come up for renewal and some would have wanted to move onto other opportunities. This is especially the case when "Quantico" was moved from a fall show to a midseason show for the 2017-2018 season. So, whoisn't returning for the third season of the FBI drama?

Don't worry, Alex Parrish will be back

Fans worried about losing the main star of the show can take a deep breath. Priyanka Chopra is definitely reprising her role as Alex Parrish in the third season of the show.

She will also be joined by Johanna Braddy and Jack McLaughlin, who play Shelby Wyatt and Ryan Booth. More great news is that Blair Underwood, who played Owen Hall in the second season, will reprise his role moving forward.

Not only do the characters tell us that the FBI will be involved in the next story, but also that the CIA will be involved. Hall is still part of the CIA, or at least technically he is after being released from prison and the truth about the terrorists from season 2 being revealed.

Who isn't returning to 'Quantico' season 3?

There will be a couple of missing faces in the upcoming season. Most importantly the twins Raina and Nimah will not return to the show. Actress Yasmine Al Massri, who plays both characters, confirmed fairly soon after the season 3 pickup that she was moving onto new ventures.

Pearl Thusi is also departing the show. She was brought into the second season as Dayanna, a questionable CIA hopeful. Fans didn't take to the character as much as others on the show, although the dual timeline and messy storyline may have been partially to blame for that.

Showrunner Josh Safran announced that he was stepping down before the third season was confirmed.

It initially left a void, but "Code Black" creator Michael Seitzman is officially taking over the show. He quickly got to work to set up the storyline for the next season, which will see a reduced episode order due to the change in premiere.

"Quantico" season 3 will return to ABC sometime in the midseason. An exact date is not yet available.

It is very likely that the season will follow a single timeline, which helped to pick up the ratings at the end of the second season.
