The drought will soon be over for fans of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe as the much-awaited “Outlander” Season 3 returns on September 10 on Starz.
The final episode of “Outlander” Season 2 aired on July 9, 2016, and it has been an agonizing 14-month wait for fans to find out what happens next to the star-crossed lovers Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). On July 11, the official Twitter account of the Starz drama series revealed the season premiere date, along with a 25-second sneak peak. It shows Jamie and Claire standing opposite a big stone, which once brought them together.

What happens to Claire and Jamie after being separated?
Three months after revealing the trailer for “Outlander” Season 3, Starz released new photo stills from the historical romance drama hinting at what's to come for Claire and Jamie once the show returns on September 10.
For Sam Heughan’s character, Jamie was seen stuck in the 18th century. He will be caught up in battle. Meanwhile, Caitriona Balfe’s character, Claire, will be two centuries into the future.
The photos included the scene where Jamie misses Brianna’s birth. Claire shared the important event with Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) instead.
While the main characters obviously suffer over the separation, Balfe reportedly told Vanity Fair that she enjoyed the costume change due to her character’s time traveling ability. She told the magazine that her character's change of costume was a lot of fun, as she tried styles from the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
Meanwhile, the new season of “Outlander” will have 13 episodes.
It will be based on Diana Gabaldon’s “Voyager” and it starts right after Claire returns to 1948. The series developers Maril Davis, Ronald D. Moore, Toni Graphia. Anne Kenney, Andy Harries, and Matthew B. Roberts serve as the “Outlander” executive producers. The series is produced by Story Mining & Supply Company, Tall Ship Productions, and Left Bank Pictures along with Sony Pictures Television.
