The official premiere date for it has yet to be announced. However, it's believed that it will be around the Fall of 2018 sometime. This great news definitely means that you guys can expect to see continuing coverage. It will include new spoilers which are confirmed and speculated, cast interviews, sneak peeks and all that good stuff in the coming weeks and months. So, be sure to look out for all of that.
Chris Chibnail is the new showrunner
In fact, the people at Express were already able to dish out a few new behind-the-scenes details of what we can expect. Apparently, the show is getting a new showrunner to take the place of Steven Moffat. The new showrunner will be Chris Chibnall. They also say that Chibnall has hinted that he might have season 11 feature a continuous storyline that is similar to the one that he gave to his drama "Broadchurch."
They went on to say that Chibnall spoke with the Royal Television Society’s members-only television magazine and told them that he is going to bring a risk and boldness to the show. He actually resisted the "Doctor Who" job for a really long time but finally gave in because he absolutely loves the show.
One of Chibnall's collaborators, James Strong, said that the new season might feature a radical revamp! It will give a slightly different take on what the show should be.
Filming starts in early 2018
Chibnall is going to be responsible for the final scene of the upcoming Christmas special. That scene will also feature the first appearance of the new Doctor actor.
The new Doctor actor has not yet been officially announced. So, we'll have to provide that information at a later date. According to a report from Screencrush, the season 11 filming is supposed to start in early 2018.
Let's look at the rating's numbers for season 10. It definitely drew in pretty big audiences in the UK. Since it is based in the UK, those are the numbers that are important.
The season 10 premiere which aired on April 15, 2017, brought in 6.68 million viewers in the UK. In the United States, it brought in considerably fewer viewers with only around 900,000 or so watchers. The demo ratings were 0.32 for the 18-49 age group in the United States.
UK numbers look pretty good
Episode 10 which aired on June 24, 2017, delivered 4.73 million UK viewers. It's still to be determined how many viewers episode 11 brought in. The audience numbers did drop but they still seemed pretty strong. They also dropped a lot in the United States. That same episode only brought in around 400,000 or so viewers in America and scored a 0.15 demo rating.
We couldn't find demo ratings for the UK.
However, every episode scored over 80 for the audience appreciation index which is very good. Again, the UK numbers are the only ones that really matter when it comes to sustaining the life of this show. With that said, the numbers look pretty good and that's why it's getting renewed.
It is yet to be revealed how many episodes season 11 will get. It's likely that information won't be released until later this year. We might even possibly have to wait until 2018 to get that info. We'll just have to wait and see. Stay tuned.
