HBO's original series, "Big Little Lies," has been considered to be an overall success after its season 1 finale. The ending of the series starring Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgard, Shailene Woodley, and Reese Witherspoon was more than enough to make viewers crave for more.

Although "Big Little Lies" Season 2 is already expected to happen, the development for the next season is surprisingly slower than expected. According to Deadline, it has already been announced a few months back that the showrunners are still in the early stages of development.

Checking back a few months after the said announcement, what's the latest update on the production of "Big Little Lies" season 2?

Deadline tried to get some "Big Little Lies" season 2 updates from a very reliable insider and cast member, Reese Witherspoon. The 41-year-old actress revealed that they already had initial conversations with "Big Little Lies" author, Liane Moriarty.

New stories, ideas pouring in

Apparently, Nicole Kidman was also part of the initial meeting with Liane Moriarty, as the 50-year-old actress also shared that the "Big Little Lies" author is on the stage of writing new ideas for the series, and they are all very hopeful for season 2. The success of "Big Little Lies" was considered to be a surprise, as it was a low-budget series.

The setting was just in a small town neighborhood, and there were only five main cast members. Aside from Witherspoon, Kidman, Woodley, and Skarsgard, Laura Dern was also part of the cast line up. As they say, small things come in big packages, and the series got a whopping 16 Emmy nominations for season 1.

Cast all geared up for season 2

Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Alexander Skarsgard openly expressed their appreciation for the series and their respective roles. In fact, Witherspoon was already a fan of the novel even before the role to play a posh housewife cheating on her husband was offered to her.

Meanwhile, Kidman also shared that she was amazed by how the series seemed to be popular everywhere she goes.

According to Deadline, Kidman has observed that whether she's in London or Australia, everyone seems to talk about the issues tackled on the series, and it was the first time she got to experience that kind of response from the fans.

Alexander Skarsgard also talked about the cliffhanger scene in "BLL" episode 7 where a binocular shot was shown watching Madeline, Celeste, and Jane while on the beach. The identity of the watcher is still a mystery, and it could be the starting point for "Big Little Lies" season 2.
