FX network anthology American Horror Story is coming back to TV screens in the USA on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, 10 p.m. ET/PT. The announcement came about at the San Diego Comic Con on Thursday night where the new series title ‘Cult’ was revealed. Hints have been dropped over the past few months that this season will be geared towards current American politics.

Is this season based on the Trump era?

Even though we now have the title, it’s still not clear what the theme exactly is. There have been talks on the lead up to the reveal that it will be based on the 2016 US general election. When speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, creator Ryan Murphy confirmed “The show begins with election night, the national conversation, both the euphoria and the fear” when asked by THR “There will be a Trump and Hilary on television?” Murphy replied “Yes.”

What makes a Cult?

As well as the writers expressing to THR that the Trump era is a “True American Horror Story” it has also been confirmed that the season show will be set in Michigan and that there will be 11 episodes of chilling terror.

For the past few months, Murphy has been leaving clues on his Instagram account which has presented disturbing images in true AHS fashion. From a row of American flags planted in turf to a live human being covered in bees, all have left fans baffled as to what they can expect next. There have also been hints on some of the latest castings for the series with Murphy posting a snap of Colton Haynes welcoming the actor to the cast.

Who is starring in the latest series?

Murphy also announced this week on his Twitter handle that actress and creator Lena Dunham of the HBO series ‘Girls’ will be joining the cast this year. Regular AHS cast members Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be joined by the latest additions Billie Lourd, Billy Eichner and Leslie Grossman.

It’s also believed that this will be Evan’s heaviest season yet, having grown up on screen through the seasons. Announced earlier this year Lady Gaga will not be returning to the next series due to other work commitments.

The teasers feature multiple scary IT types, so beware if you’re not a fan of clowns. If you are curious as to what else this series has in store. While the plot thickens, there is an enormous amount of hype around the latest series that could see this being the most controversial to date.
