Mindy Kaling is taking a big leap as she will soon welcome her first child. Several sources confirmed to E! News that the 38-year-old actress and author is currently pregnant. An insider said the pregnancy was "unexpected" but assured that it will not affect Kaling's schedules for "A Wrinkle In Time" and "Ocean's Eight" which are currently in their post-production stages.

Kaling opens up about marriage and pregnancy

The "No Strings Attached" actress has always been expressive about her desire to have children in her past interviews. In fact, she had said that she would love to have her own children "imminently" regardless of who the father would be.

"I'm not cavalier about who I would have a kid with," Kaling told Yahoo! Style. "But the thing I ask every parent that I really admire, the one comment they all have is that they wish they had kids earlier."

When asked if she plans to settle down, the actress said marriage has become "less interesting" as she has gotten older. Kaling, however, admitted that she admires good marriage and considered it a "beautiful thing" especially when she was younger.

After reports of her pregnancy came out, a PEOPLE source claimed that the actress is keeping a tight-lipped on the identity of her baby's father. “She is not telling anyone, not even close friends, who the father is,” the affiliate told the publication.

Kaling's past relationships with Novak and Nugent

It also confirmed that the actress is not dating anyone until her pregnancy was announced. Kaling was previously linked to her "The Office" co-star B.J. Novak whom she had dated for about two years. The two actors became close friends while filming the TV series where they played as a couple.

When asked about his relationship with the actress, Novak revealed that some of their scenes in the comedy series were based on their behavior on the set. "Mindy and I were extremely close and constantly fighting," he told TIME magazine.

The actor even confessed that both of them were unsure whether they were actually dating or not.

"All you'd know for sure as that you'd always find one of us next to the other, even if we weren't getting along," the male comedian added.

Kaling, on the other hand, confessed that it was "challenging" to play as a warring couple in "The Office" after she and her co-actor ended their relationship. "I'm such a sentimental person and I take things very hard -- but that's the nice thing about being in long friendships," she admitted.

Aside from Novak, the "License to Wed" actress also dated writer Benjamin Nugent. Her relationship with him reportedly lasted for about four years before they broke up in 2012.

Ever since news of her pregnancy came out, Kaling has yet to make a comment to confirm nor deny reports.
