Fans were delighted when the USA announced that fan favorite series, "Psych" would be staging a reunion movie for Christmas, with the original cast returning as well as series creator Steve Franks. The film is written by Franks and James Roday, with Franks also serving as director. Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment shares that the holidays is the best time for a "Psych" reunion movie, for it's a beloved part of the network.

"Psych" follows Shawn Spencer (James Roday) as he uses the observation skills his father (Corbin Bernsen) taught him to convince the Santa Barbara police department that he's a psychic.

He drags his best friend, Gus (Dule Hill) away from a pharmaceutical job and into Psych, a private (psychic) detective agency, as well as cases with the police. The show also featured Detective Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) who often traded insults with Shawn, Detective Juliet O'Hara (Maggie Lawson), and Chief Vick (

The show also featured Detective Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) who often traded insults with Shawn, Detective Juliet O'Hara (Maggie Lawson), and Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson). The TV series also included flashbacks to several of the lessons Shawn was taught by his father and a wide range of celebrity guests from Ralph Macchio to Rachael Leigh Cook.

The series ended with a proposal and nod to 'Monk'

"Psych" ended in 2014 after eight seasons of wacky adventures and eccentric characters. In the finale, Juliet (Maggie Lawson) was offered a Head Detective position in San Francisco by Chief Vick (who had previously relocated), leaving Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) as the new Chief of the Santa Barbara police department.

Shawn made the decision to follow his girlfriend, leaving his role as a psychic and his best friend behind, only for Gus to follow later. The two friends decided to relocate their agency, and the TV series ended with Shawn proposing to Juliet (who said "yes" right before the ring was stolen). The finale also included an on-the-nose nod to fan favorite character organizing the pantry, which USA fans recognized as a reference to "Monk," an OCD detective portrayed by Tony Shalhoub.

Zachary Levi in role as villain

Not much is known about the "Psych" movie, but it was confirmed that Cybill Shepherd (who played Shawn's mother) wouldn't be returning. It's also been rumored that Cary Elwes (who played fan-favorite antagonist Despereaux) will return, based on comments that Elwes made at a comic book convention appearance. It's unknown if Kristy Swanson will reprise her role as Marlowe, who married Lassiter in season seven.

The movie will take place in real time, three years after the events of the finale. There is no word yet on the status of Juliet and Shawn's proposal. The plot will focus on Shawn and his friends as they come together for the holidays only to have one of their own targeted by a mysterious assailant.

Zachary Levi (Chuck) will star as the film's villain, known as Thin White Duke, which was revealed by a video posted by James Roday and Dule Hill. In the video, Levi is also sporting platinum blonde hair.

It's nice to have "Psych" returning to the USA this December with a dose of its usual quirkiness and craziness.
