Carrie Fisher's official cause of death has been revealed by the coroner. Fisher, who died on December 27th of 2016 at the age of 60, did not have a heart attack, as was originally believed.
Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds mourned by millions
Fisher's actual cause of death was sleep apnea and a combination of other health issues that the actress had been struggling with. At first Fisher's cause of death was listed on her death certificate as cardiac arrest, with a memo note mentioned that at the time the coroner could not conclusively determine the cause without a full-fledged autopsy.
Mysterious circumstances surround the deaths of celebrity mother and daughter
The full autopsy report now states -- according to TMZ -- that heart disease and drug use is listed under "other conditions." The "Star Wars" actress also had a large amount of fat buildup in the walls of her arteries. It was also revealed that multiple drugs were found in Carrie Fisher's system at the time of her death.
That being said, it also clearly states that the coroner could not determine if the drugs Fisher had taken triggered the massive heart attack she suffered on the flight. On Friday, Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd released a statement to People magazine revealing that her mother battled drug addiction and mental illness for decades.
Lourd also stated that Fisher was always very open about her struggles throughout her life. As previously reported, Fisher's fatal health emergency began while the actress was on board a flight on December 23, prior to landing at LAX.
Passengers on board the plane stated that Fisher appeared lifeless, one passenger (an EMT) administered CPR until the plane landed and she was rushed to the hospital -- where she died 4 days later at the age of 60.
Carrie's mother, legendary actress Debbie Reynolds, died the following day at the age of 84. Reynolds' cause of death has been listed as a brain hemorrhage, though most believe Debbie died of a broken heart following her daughter Carrie's passing.
Since Reynolds' death family members have been squabbling over everything from her will to the cause of her death.
Family members have been contesting the will, stating that it was outdated and that due to passing away unexpectedly, she never had the chance to revise the documents. There has also been a lot of speculation surrounding the cause of Debbie's death.
A double memorial service was held on January 5th. The mother and daughter were buried together at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
