Will ‘Wonder Woman’ break the box-office records of 'Beauty and the Beast'?

“Wonder Woman” is currently the most anticipated Hollywood film. It is scheduled to be released in Canada, the United States, and other parts of the world on June 2, 2017, after originally being planned for June 23, 2017.

So far, the movie promos and posters have received good comments from critics, with some of them claiming that “Wonder Woman” will make $40 to $60 million in its opening weekend.

An annual Fandango survey shows that “Wonder Woman” is the most talked-about movie on social media.

Will it break the records?

Though it’s too early to say whether “Wonder Woman” will break the records of “Beauty and the Beast” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2” or not, the film is gathering momentum. Gal Gadot said in a statement to Forbes that she has high expectations for this movie. The audiences are reluctant to see a female superhero on the big screen, so “Wonder Woman” will set new Box Office Records.

The Fandango survey reveals that the Gal Gadot-starred film is beating out other titles such as "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," which means “Wonder Woman” got more tweets, Facebook likes, shares, and Instagram followers than other movies.

BoxOffice.com forecasts a $65 million North American opening and believes that the film could gross up to $90 in its opening weekend. BoxOffice CEO Shawn Robbins says that strong social media buzz and generational awareness drive our expectations beyond previously moderate level. The movie is expected to make $90 million domestically and up to $120 million internationally.

The female superhero

“Wonder Woman” has been developed with $120 million (excluding the marketing costs). It is so far the biggest standalone movie featuring a female superhero. Set to hit theaters in the United States this weekend, Gal Gadot and other cast members are busy in international promotions.

The actress told Forbes that her role (Diana Princess) is full of strengths and powers.

For the first time, the audiences will see a female playing the major role in a movie; and to this, Gadot said that she and director Patty Jenkins worked hard to make sure that Diana Princess comes across as a reliable character.

Following the poor reviews “Suicide Squad” and “Batman v Superman” received last year, early reactions to “Wonder Woman” were not satisfactory. Critics and audiences believed that this film would be a major disaster of the year as it features a female superhero.

On the other hand, Patty and Gal promise that the movie will deliver a faithful adaption of Diana Princess’s original story. Earlier this month, Patty Jenkins hinted at a possible sequel but gave it no date.
